Tiki Barber wants Giants to take this player in 2024 NFL Draft

Tiki Barber doesn’t want the Giants taking a quarterback in the 2024 NFL Draft.

He instead would like to see Big Blue get behind Daniel Jones and give him the kind of weapon he’s been missing with the No. 6 overall pick.

“I am taking Rome Odunze at wide receiver,” Barber, the former Giants great, said on his WFAN show. “And finally give them that breakout, big-play threat that Daniel Jones has not had consistently yet.

“To me, it feels like a sure bet.”

Odunze, the Washington Huskies standout, is expected to be a top-10 pick and is in contention to be the second wide receiver taken Thursday night, with Ohio State’s Marvin Harrison Jr. widely projected to go to the Cardinals at No. 4 overall.

LSU’s Malik Nabers is the other receiver in the running to be the second pass-catcher off the board.

Among the yearly tradition of wide-ranging rumors flying ahead of the 2024 NFL Draft, the Giants have recently been linked to UNC quarterback Drake Maye, with ESPN calling Maye “the Giants’ guy.”

But it’s unclear whether the Giants are willing to part with the sort of high-level assets it’d likely take to move up and ensure they’d get him.

Caleb Williams is expected to go No. 1 overall to the Bears, and the Commanders (No. 2) and Patriots (No. 3) both need a quarterback.

“I don’t love any of these quarterbacks, save for one,” Barber said said. “You’re starting to hear the Giants are going to move up to get Drake Maye, and it makes no sense. What the Giants would have to give up make no sense.

“You have a $40 million quarterback on your roster already … who is pretty good, when he’s healthy. I know is health is a big thing, but let’s have some faith in Daniel Jones being healthy in this scenario, for argument’s sake.”

Jones, 26, is coming off a torn ACL and also missed time last year with a neck issue.

The Giants gave Jones, whom they drafted No. 6 overall five years ago, a four-year, $160 million contract last year, but they could release him after the 2024 season and take a $22.2 million dead-cap hit for 2025.

While Michigan quarterback J.J. McCarthy told Rich Eisen he spent most of his pre-draft time with the Giants, recent reports have indicated the Giants are not pursuing the national championship winner in the draft.
