The PP demands that Sánchez break the silence about the investigations into his wife and still does not rule out summoning them to the Senate

The PP demands Pedro Sanchez to break his silence of the last month and a half and explain why A Madrid court has opened proceedings against his wife, Begoña Gómez, for influence peddling. “It is urgent that the president appear,” has pointed out the deputy secretary of Health and Education of the PP, Ester Muñoz.

Although the opposition has been asking for the president’s appearance for weeks, this Wednesday they raised the “urgency” due to the latest “very relevant and worrying” information that points to a judicial investigation against his wife. If they do not do so, the PP still keeps open the possibility of summoning both to the Senate investigation commission. “We are no further from calling them to the Senate than yesterday.”

For the opposition, Spaniards cannot wake up and have breakfast with new information without knowing from their president what it means. What’s more, the popular ones warn that the longer Sánchez remains silent, the more he will harm his wife. “For the PP, the problem is not Begoña but Sánchez,” clarifies Muñoz, who believes that the focus is now on Gómez. Furthermore, the deputy secretary ironically said that “it seems that in Spain only those around Sánchez prosper.”

Even so, the popular bench has avoided making a dent in this matter during the Government control. PP sources explain that it is due to a communication and role distribution strategy: Alberto Núñez Feijóo He talks about Bildu and, afterwards, they assess the latest information in front of the media to surround Sánchez. Besides, The popular ones denounce that the PSOE tries to divert attention of the plot announcing this morning that Teresa Ribera will be its candidate in the European elections.

According to publication The confidentialthe Court of Instruction number 41 of Plaza de Castilla has opened an investigation against Begoña Gómez, the wife of the president of the Government, denounced for alleged crimes of influence peddling and private corruption. The proceedings were initiated on April 16 following a complaint from Clean Hands against Pedro Sánchez’s wife due to her relationships with several companies that benefit from aid and contracts with the Government.

The proceedings have been declared secret, as reported by the Superior Court of Justice of Madrid, and have fallen on an ordinary basis to the instructor Juan Carlos Peinado, who will order the appearance of several witnesses among his first investigations.
