Local luck, Christmas cheer and jackpot joy – Ireland’s most fortunate shops with multiple Lotto wins over €1million

THE shop that sold Dolores McNamara her €115million winning Euromillions ticket in 2005 has made another shopper a multi-millionaire.

Lotto has confirmed G O Stores in Garryowen, Limerick sold the slip that on Saturday earned the lucky punter €8,970,934, nearly 20 years after Dolores became Ireland’s first ever Euromillions jackpot winner.

But, as Nicola Bardon found out, it seems some shops are luckier than others.

Here are ten shops that have sold the winning tickets over three times each, with the holder taking home more than a million each time…

SuperValu, Bailieborough

CAVAN locals will know that the supermarket has so far sold three jackpot tickets.

The first came on November 2, 1996.

At the time, they scooped over £3.7million, which would be €4.7million today.

In 2012, another person won the Lotto jackpot of €3.6million, while it was a very happy Christmas for another family after their syndicate won almost €4.5million on the Christmas Eve draw in 2016.

Happy Christmas!

Wallaces, Wexford

THE Wellingtonbridge store had its first win in 1993 and its latest this year.

Fast forward to May 2009, when, once again, someone won €2million.

And this year, 32 Ballyingly Joinery employees couldn’t believe it when their syndicate tickets won the €1million jackpot in the Lotto Plus Raffle, which could give them €31,250 each.

Kennedy’s, Dublin

KENNEDY’S self-service store in Stepaside, Dublin has also been a lucky purchase point for winners.

Their first winner came in April 24, 1993, when a Stonemasons work syndicate split €1.7m.

Just four years later the little local had another winner.

May 28, 1997 saw a local made a millionaire.

But they had to wait a little longer for the third winner who in 2003, also on the Lotto, picked the winning Lotto numbers, cashing in almost €2million.

Tesco, Mullingar

THE store on the Ash Road is known locally as a lucky shop after getting two millionaires in one year.

In 2013, the huge rollover Lotto was won when couple Carol Loran and Kevin Geoghan, below, won over €10m after buying a €4 quick pick between them.

And another person won the Christmas raffle draw later in the year, which is a €1m jackpot.

It was certainly a happy new year for someone.

Hannigans, Cootehill

CAVAN continues to have the luck.

In April 2001, the shop on Main Street saw a €1million winner on the Lotto draw.

They had an even bigger scoop in 2007, when a winner pocketed €4.8million.

And the following year, someone won the Monday Million jackpot.

The store has had many other wins under the €1million mark, too, including in 2020, when brothers Niall and Sean, above, sold a Euromillions ticket that won €256,142.

GPO, Dublin

PROBABLY one of the busiest locations in the country, and the most famous, plus it has produced three Lotto millionaires.

In 1999, they sold the winning ticket that saw a €2.2million win on the Irish Lotto.

The store produced another win in December 2006, with a €7.4million jackpot.

And 2012 got off to a great start for someone after a ticket for the Christmas Millionaire’s Lotto was bought at the GPO over the festive period.

Ardkeen, Waterford

THE superstore had its first big winner in 2001, who scooped €1.56million.

In 2012, there was another Lotto winner, who this time was €2.88million richer after picking the winning numbers.

Then in March 2002 there was another winner announced, with the person picking up €1.1million.

And fast forward to February 2007, and their biggest win so far, with one lucky shopper going home with €2.6million.

Then, in 1999, someone won €1million exactly on a draw in June.

The store’s next big win came only five years later in 2004, when the right numbers for one lucky ticket holder saw them become almost €2million richer overnight.

Garveys, Listowel

THE SuperValu in the Kingdom has had its share of millionaires, the first back in December 2008.
