It looks like the critically acclaimed sci-fi series Severance could finally be making a comeback on Apple TV+.
Production for Severance Season 2 has officially wrapped, signaling a major update for fans who have been waiting for the highly anticipated show to come back.
Carol Deelay, a costumer on Severance, recently shared a photo from set confirming that the show finished filming Season 2, per Collider.
This is one of the first major updates fans have gotten regarding Season 2, considering the streamer has been teasing the new season since early January. The Severance show reportedly suffered major delays following last year’s Hollywood strikes. A report from April 2023 also claimed that co-show runners Mark Friedman and Dan Erickson had a major falling out while working on Season 1, impacting the development for Season 2.
Now that filming has wrapped, the premiere of Severance Season 2 is imminent. Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the premiere.
What happened in Severance Season 1?
Severance Season 1 introduced us to Mark (Adam Scott), a corporate employee at a nondescript biotech company called Lumon where employees undergo a unique procedure that severs their lives inside of work from their lives outside, meaning they have no recollection of who they are when they’re on the clock. Mark agrees to be severed to cope with the death of his wife, Gemma, but has no recollection of her while on the inside. Still, the dystopia bubbles to the surface at Lumon Industries when Petey, an employee at the company, goes missing, prompting Mark and his colleagues Helly (Britt Lower), Dylan (Zach Cherry) and Irving (John Turtorro) to begin investigating the company.
Season 1 ended just as Mark and his colleagues reached some major revelations about their lives outside of the company. Mark not only learned that his deceased wife is still alive, but Helly also learned that she is actually the daughter of Lumon CEO James Eagan, and her severance was just a PR stunt for the company.
What is Severance Season 2 about?
That finale certainly set the stage for an explosive Season 2.
Executive producer and director Ben Stiller confirmed that Season 2 will explore Mark and Helly’s growing relationship now that Mark knows Gemma is still alive. As Stiller put it in an interview with Variety, “We’re starting to root for him and Helly, but now we also want to root for Outie Mark to find his wife. That’s an interesting juxtaposition and conflict we’ll explore in the second season.”
Severance will also explore why Lumon targeted Gemma and Mark, though Erickson did not clarify whether it would be explored in Season 2 or further on.
Additionally, Season 2 will address what Irving was up to with all of that research on Lumon. Erickson teased what’s to come for the character in Season 2, noting, “We don’t fully explain what it’s about, but the most pro-Lumon company man on the inside may actually have ulterior motives on the outside… We’re wondering at the same time that Irving is [in the finale], ‘What the hell is going on? What is my Outie up to?’”
Erickson also told Variety that Season 2 will have 10 episodes instead of nine, as Season 1 did.

Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie has been added for a new role in the season, along with Alia Shawkat. John Noble and Bob Babalan have also joined the Severance cast.
When did Severance Season 2 film?
It appears that Severance began filming Season 2 at some point in January. Apple TV+ teased the new season with a still from the show shared on Jan. 2, hinting that development was ramping back up.
But Stiller announced that they were “back to work” with a post on X on Jan. 29, alongside a photo from behind the scenes that showed Scott filming a scene in what looks a lot like Lumon.
What is the Severance Season 2 release date?
A premiere date for Severance Season 2 has not been announced yet. At this rate, however, it is possible for the show to premiere on Apple TV+ in late 2024 or early 2025.
Now that we know filming for Season 2 has wrapped, it’s only a matter of time before we return to Lumon Industries.
