Ex-MLB player Dustan Mohr sentenced for sex crimes against girl, 13

A former MLB player learned his fate Friday after pleading guilty to sex crimes against a teenage girl he was trusted with to train in softball.

Dustan Mohr, 47, was sentenced to 9 years in an Indiana jail for three separate charges for sexually fondling a 13-year-old girl multiple times over a six-month span.

The girl’s family hired Mohr to provide softball lessons at Strike Zone Training Center in Fort Wayne, Indiana, according to WANE 15.

When the family chose the training facility to send their daughter, they were told it was a safe place for children.

“This was not a safe place,” the girl’s father told Allen Superior Court, in Fort Wayne.

During their training sessions, Mohr sexually fondled the girl who told him she was only 13 years old.

Mohr was also accused of sexually touching the girl while they were inside his vehicle and provided the minor a separate phone so they could communicate and share private digital images, the outlet reported, citing court documents.

The girl’s father claimed Mohr spread lies about him to his daughter telling his victim her father was “an awful person that was mentally and emotionally abusive.”

Mohr had even gained access to the girl’s phone and blocked certain parental controls, but the protective father was still able to track down his daughter’s location to Mohr’s home and rescued her from rape, the outlet reported.

The ex-outfielder was arrested on August 9, 2023 for crimes dating back from May 2023 and earlier.

In March, Mohr plead guilty to three felony charges – Child Solicitation, Child Seduction- Fondling/Touching with intent to arouse a minor between the ages 14-16 and Sexual Misconduct with a minor, all Felony 5 offenses, according to inmate records.

A Felony 5 sentence ranges from one to six years each.

On Friday, Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced Mohr to 15 years, six years suspended.

The victim’s family, who described Mohr as a “monster” had asked Gull for the maximum sentence of 18 years.

“A hefty sentence would give my daughter a chance to breathe again,” the girl’s father said before adding his daughter had suffered “the loss of her innocence by a 50-year-old who knew what he was doing,”

Mohr was originally handed four charges, the three he pleaded guilty to, and a fourth for the dissemination of matter harmful to minors, according to 21 Alive News.

The now 15-year-old girl told Judge Gull that she was left isolated and depressed because of the abuse and is seeing a doctor.

The Mississippi native was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 9th round of the 1997 draft.

He made his professional debut in 2001 with the Minnesota Twins, where he would play for portions of three seasons before heading out to San Francisco for the 2004 season.

From 2005 to 2007, Mohr split time in the Majors and Minor leagues for the Colorado Rockies, Boston Red Sox and Tampa Bay Devil Rays.

Mohr finished his playing career with the AAA affiliate of Colorado in 2008.
