I turned a tiny shed in my parents’ garden into a cosy home – it took a week and the electrics were sorted in 2 minutes

BIGGER isn’t always better, at least that’s what this woman discovered when she turned a tiny storage shed in her parents’ back garden into a tiny home for her brother.

Margaret Skiff, from Maine in the US, took the run down shed which was full to the brim with old junk and made it into a cosy place for her brother to relax.

Margaret explained in the viral YouTube video that the family used the shed to store just about everything.

From furniture to old clothes, you couldn’t even get inside the wood structure before she got to work transforming it.

“Everything that doesn’t go in the house has basically just been shoved in this shed for years,” she explained.

Roping in her mum, the DIY whizz got to work in clearing out the junk, a task that would end up taking two full days.

A lot of the stuff inside the shed ending up being thrown away because it was destroyed by mice, but anything that could be salvaged got a new home or went to a new storage unit.

Once the shed was finally empty Margaret had to clean it from top to bottom.

“The first thing we did was just a very basic vacuum because there were lots of dead bugs and general grossness,” she said.

But after all of that, and the discovery of a hidden mouse nest, was dealt with things began to take shape.

Next, Margaret and her mum replaced one of the old windows of the shed and even added a new one in to give her brother some much needed light inside.

A solar panel was also added to the outside of the shed to make it feel a bit more homely – the wire runs from the panel outside to a hanging light fixture inside.

After that, and the addition of some planters on the outside of the shed – it was looking much more like somewhere you’d want to stay the night.

A double bed ended up fitting the space perfectly, and the old shed shelves made for great clothing storage.

The mum and daughter duo even added a small coffee bar station to the corner of the room, complete with mugs, a coffee machine and a large water dispenser, since there’s no running water in the shed.

The electricity was sorted in just minutes too – simply by drilling a hole in the floor of the shed and running in an extension cord from the main house.

After sharing the finished tour on YouTube people were stunned by the transformation.

One said: “I think it’s wonderful. The transformation is amazing. If your brother doesn’t end up being there long term, you hav a money maker. I think you did a terrific job.”

A second agreed: “Fabulous! So charming!”

But others pointed out that the mice problem could very well return to the new and improved shed.

“Looks good-nice job! Hope you sealed it all up with sealant as the mice will come back in and destroy everything!”

But Margaret assured viewers that she still planned on sealing everything up, so there was no need to worry.
