AEW might still be a relatively new company, but that doesn’t mean that the promotion has been exempt from botches. The style of AEW is fast-paced, and often there are a lot of weapons and gimmicks involved all of which increase the risk factor when it comes to botching moves.

That’s why there’s been no shortage of mistakes over the years in AEW, and that has led to some infamous moments. While some botches can be comedic, others have been dangerous and left people worried about the health and safety of the wrestlers involved in the situations.

Julia Hart Misses The Table

It Led To Her Head Colliding On Concrete

Julia Hart has made incredible improvements throughout her time in AEW, putting together some excellent performances that have helped to make her one of the top female stars in the company. However, she was involved in a scary botch where her head ended up colliding with the concrete.

Great Muta had sprayed his mist into the eyes of Buddy Matthews, and he then fell back and bumped into Hart which sent her off the ring apron. A table was set below for her to crash into but she overshot it catching the end of the table and then slamming her head off the floor.

Ruby Soho Deals With Consecutive Botches

The Former WWE Superstar Broke Her Nose

Ruby Soho was involved in consecutive botches during the buy-in for All Out in 2022, which was a situation that left her legitimately injured. At one point she was on Sammy Guevara’s shoulders and got kicked off, but rather than controlling her, she ended up being let go to land on her neck.

That was followed by Tay Melo catching Soho with a knee to the face that caught her flush, which continued the issues. The knee rocked her as Soho began bleeding and suffered a broken nose, making this a moment to forget.

Matt Sydal Takes A Top Rope Stumble

Sydal Was Almost Seriously Hurt

Matt Sydal is known for being a risk-taker inside the ring, putting together amazing moves from the top rope which is something he’s built his career around. He’s hit countless moves from that area perfectly, but when he debuted in AEW the veteran wrestler almost hurt himself seriously.

He tried to kickstart his inclusion in the match with a move from the top rope, but he ended up slipping as it happened. He ended up landing on his neck which led to some real concern, but he did manage to keep competing.

Sting’s Table Dive Doesn’t Work

Sting was involved in a lot of major matches throughout his time in the company, and he was always happy to get involved in crazy spots to ensure that people were talking about him. That saw Sting push himself to the extreme, and that was the case when he and Darby Allin faced Sammy Guevara and Chris Jericho.

Sting tries to leap from a ladder inside the ring to put Guevara through some tables outside of it, and while he does land on him he also hurts himself in the process. Sting cracked his head on one of the tables as he didn’t leap enough, which was a scary situation.

Jon Moxley and Rey Fenix are two fantastic wrestlers, and while they have vastly different styles they’re certainly experienced and talented enough to put on a great match. Unfortunately, when they competed against each other for the International Championship there was a botch that injured Moxley.

He was rocked when Fenix took a dive and kneed him in the head. It was a botched move and it led to him being concussed. While he stumbled his way through the match, Moxley did call for a change of finish that led to Fenix winning the title instead.

The Dark Order has had a hit-and-miss run throughout its history, but during one of its early segments, the group was involved in a botch that left fans questioning the quality of those involved. The group was involved in a giant beatdown, and one of the masked wrestlers threw some terribly worked punches that didn’t connect in the slightest.

It wasn’t an unsafe botch or something that put someone at risk, but the big problem with it was the fact that it looked so amateur, which wasn’t what AEW was trying to convey at the time.

There’s A Lack Of Explosions

The Botch Was From AEW Itself Rather Than The Performers Involved

One of the worst botches that has taken place throughout AEW history was at the end of the exploding barbed wire match which was when the company had built up the idea that a big explosion would take place. Jon Moxley was down, and Eddie Kingston made his way to the ring to try and protect his friend.

He jumped on top of Moxley as if a huge explosion was about to happen, but instead, it was more like sprinklers in the corner of the ring. It was a very embarrassing situation, and that’s something that people haven’t forgotten.

It Wasn’t The Traditional Type That Was Launched At His Face

Matt Hardy’s feud against Sammy Guevara felt like it was cursed from the start, with the two men simply never getting on the same page when it came to physical segments, despite how hard they tried. This botch took place during a brawl that was done to try to get some heat into the feud, and it certainly achieved that goal.

Guevara launched a chair at Hardy and ended up connecting with him flush in the face, which led to Hardy bleeding heavily. He didn’t throw a typical wrestling chair either, as it was much heavier and caused more damage, with Reby Hardy venting her frustrations online afterward.

Cody Rhodes Takes A Chair Shot To The Head

AEW looked to give Shawn Spears a major debut when he first arrived in the company as he came in and rocked Cody Rhodes with a chair shot to the head, which was certainly controversial due to people’s knowledge of concussions. AEW did gimmick the chair to make it less painful for Rhodes, but the entire thing was botched.

The lip of the chair caught Rhodes in the head which busted him open immediately, creating a visual few people will forget. It wasn’t a good look for AEW as a company, and it certainly brought a lot of concern to those watching.

Matt Hardy Is Speared Onto Concrete

Hardy Was Legitimately Hurt In This Situation

Without a doubt, the worst botch that has taken place in AEW history was during Matt Hardy’s match with Sammy Guevara. Their rivalry was littered with issues, but this one was shocking to see. The two fought on a scissor lift backstage which went up into the air with the idea being for Guevara to Spear Hardy off it.

Unfortunately, when it happened, they missed the tables below and Hardy’s head bounced off the concrete floor. It was a horrendous bump, and something he was fortunate to survive. They did finish the match, which was even scarier considering Hardy was visibly rocked and not steady at all.
