The electricity goes up this Sunday, with six hours at zero or negative cost

The average price of electricity in the wholesale market will rise this Sunday by 18.45%, reaching the 17.53 euros per megawatt hour (MWh)compared to 14.80 euros this Saturday, with six hours at zero or negative cost, which will be recorded between 1:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.

In this way, the electricity goes up again after the decrease this Saturday, although it remains at its prices much lower than usual around this date in recent years.

While the minimum price will occur in the afternoon with -0.58 euros, the maximum will be reached around 10:00 p.m. with 54.33 euros per MWh, according to the latest data from the Iberian Electricity Market Operator (OMIE).



The Alloy Block

The 17.53 euros this Sunday represent a decrease of 38.96% compared to 28.72 euros on the same day last week. On the other hand, electricity becomes exponentially more expensive if the 0.44% euros from a month ago are used as a reference, with an increase of more than 3,000%.

Finally, in an interannual comparison, there is a drop of 82.61%given that on May 5, 2023 the price of MWh marked an average of 100.82 euros.
