What’s Next For WWE April 2024 Releases

As has often been the case over the years, WWE’s annual post-WrestleMania releases once again took place, even under the new regime without Vince McMahon. April 2024 has seen seven wrestlers let go from WWE, consisting of a mixture of former world champions and names who barely even got a sniff on RAW and SmackDown.

13 WWE Wrestlers Triple H Completely Gave Up On

While Triple H has made a number of great choices as WWE’s booker, he has seemingly let a number of WWE Superstars lose stock within the company.

When looking ahead, there are some clear and not so clear paths that these released individuals could take once their 90 days is up. Whether it be gaining more experience or joining another promotion, here is what WWE’s most recent batch of releases should do next.

Xyon Quinn Needs To Find An Identity On The Indies

Quinn Never Made His Mark In WWE

Year Signed With WWE

Official Main Roster Debut

2018

04/24/2020 (WWE SmackDown)

Despite being signed to WWE for six years, there will be few fans who could tell you much about the WWE career of Xyon Quinn. He wandered around the NXT brand for several years with a variety of different stop-start gimmicks, but never found an identity. Before he signs anywhere else, Quinn needs to find an identity and character. On his social media, Quinn posted a video hinting at a new personality and character, but this needs to be fine-tuned on the indies before making another splash somewhere else. He hasn’t been given much of an opportunity to spread his wings creatively, so to be saddled so soon in another promotion would be a detriment to his career.

Von Wagner Should Hone His Craft On The Independent Scene

Wagner Isn’t Ready For The Spotlight Just Yet

Year Signed With WWE

Official Main Roster Debut

2019

04/10/2020 (WWE SmackDown)

Von Wagner has the looks of a star and his talents in the ring have been improving as time has gone on. However, when it comes to fine-tuning things, he still has a ways to go, most particularly in terms of character and mic work. The best place for Wagner to grow is on the independent scene, working with a variety of different wrestlers and exploring himself creatively. There is a place for him in the future of wrestling, and it feels as though in the end it will be a return to WWE for Wagner, but first he needs to improve.

Xia Li Should Join TNA’s Knockouts Division

Li’s Talents Were Not Appreciated By WWE

Year Signed With WWE

Official Main Roster Debut

2017

01/27/2019 (WWE Royal Rumble)

7 WWE Main Roster Stars Who Should Join NXT In The 2024 Draft

Not only can the right wrestlers bring more eyes to WWE NXT every week, but they can also help wrestlers switch things up or hit the refresh button.

Xia Li had such a unique style that should have been given more of a chance on the WWE main roster. However, ever since her call-up she wandered around with little to do, only getting the odd opportunity here and there in short and inconsequential matches. For women’s wrestlers, one of the best places to go and be appreciated is TNA. Joining the knockouts division could be exactly what Xia Li needs to get her career on track. With more time to wrestle, more opportunities to build her character, and with arguably the most equal men and women divisions on the planet, this is where she can become a star.

Cameron Grimes Needs To Bring His Brilliant Charisma To AEW

Grimes Is Too Good To Not Be In A Big Company

Year Signed With WWE

Official Main Roster Debut

2019

10/17/2022 (WWE Main Event)

If you take one look at Cameron Grimes work in NXT, it was clear to see that he was not only capable of stealing the show in the ring, but he also had some of the most natural and unique charisma, getting over when given the chance. AEW needs more stars like Cameron Grimes who have both the character work and the in-ring ability. The roster is certainly crowded, but several former WWE names have thrived in the company, and Grimes could be one of them. TNA could be an option too, but he is too good to be away from a big company for long.

Jinder Mahal Should Use His Name Value And Star Power To Become A Draw

Mahal Can Be A Big Name Wherever He Goes

Year Signed With WWE

Official Main Roster Debut

2010 (first run)

05/31/2011 (WWE SmackDown) (first run)

2016 (second run)

08/01/2016 (WWE RAW) (second run)

Say what you will about Jinder Mahal, he is far better than most people give him credit for. His WWE Championship reign featured a lot of good work from him but bad booking, much like most of his WWE run. Mahal can use his history as a former WWE Champion to become a draw on the independent scenes, perhaps working in a similar way to Matt Cardona – not tied down by one company, but is happy to go to the likes of TNA, NWA, and smaller promotions too. Mahal could be the top heel in any smaller company, and it isn’t even far-fetched to imagine his dominant and hard-hitting style to fit somewhere like NJPW as a heel.

Veer’s Story Needs To Be Picked Up By A Promotion Like TNA

WWE Did Not Make The Most Out Of Veer

Year Signed With WWE

Official Main Roster Debut

2018

01/22/2021 (WWE Superstar Spectacle)

Chelsea Green & 9 More WWE Wrestlers Fans Want To See More Of

WWE does a great job at showcasing its talent, but fans would be happier if they saw these wrestlers more!

For those unaware, Veer was the first Indian in history to play professional baseball, and even had an entire movie centered around his journey called “The Million Dollar Arm”. For WWE to not market this individual in a more prominent way is an absolute joke. Another company, perhaps TNA, needs to pick up Veer and market him in the biggest way possible. With some of the talent and presence he has shown in WWE, he is genuinely someone who could grow TNA to other markets if he is presented right, and his journey to stardom is highlighted. In WWE, he was wasted, with his initial main roster debut becoming a running joke.

Sanga Should Join Jeff Jarrett’s AEW Stable

Sanga Could Fine Tune Things In ROH Too

Year Signed With WWE

Official Main Roster Debut

2018

05/15/2023 (WWE RAW)

This is more of a specific pitch for Sanga than the others mentioned here, but one direction that would make sense would be joining AEW/ROH, and adding to the ranks of Jeff Jarrett’s stable. Back in 2011, he was stablemates with Jeff Jarrett and Sonjay Dutt in TNA, so there is already history there to build from. This stable needs some life and new blood, and Sanga could provide exactly that. On the side of this, he could become a dominant big man in ROH, finding his feet and improving his craft during that time too.
