After Drew McIntyre and Asuka were pulled from their respective matches because they weren’t medically cleared to compete, another big name was pulled from the King of the Ring Tournament due to an unexpected injury. It’s like the tournament is jinxed and this time it’s The All Mighty who is out.
WWE SmackDown General Manager Nick Aldis has announced this week that Bobby Lashley will not be part of the King of the Ring Tournament after not being cleared to compete. He suffered an injury just hours before SmackDown was set to include his match. He has been replaced by Pride stablemate Angelo Dawkins, who will face Tama Tonga in the first round.
It’s not clear how severe the injury is and how much time Lashley will miss. The hope is that the injury is nothing major. In fact, it’s not entirely clear if the injury announcement is a work or legitimate. Lashley recently hinted at a rivalry with Carmelo Hayes and there could be something brewing creatively. He took aim at Hayes in a recent episode of The Bump.
Aldis took to social media to say that he was informed Lashley was injured during training and wouldn’t be able to compete on Friday. “Unfortunate news for Bobby Lashley, but fortunate news for the man who is taking his place, and that man I’ve decided will be Angelo Dawkins of the Street Profits.” He added, “Best of luck to those men and I’ll see you all there tomorrow night.”

The replacement competitor being Dawkins likely makes the match a bit more predictable. WWE is trying to push the new Bloodline so Tonga is the favorite to win here. It serves WWE better to make Tonga look strong.
King and Queen Of The Ring Competitors Are Dropping Like Flies
The brackets for the tournament started with some really intriguing and highly-anticipated matches. Unfortunately, the tournament has had a run of bad luck and the brackets keep changing because competitors are getting injured. Jey Uso replaced Drew McIntyre, Dakota Kai replaced Asuka, and now Angelo Dawkins is in for Lashley. If anything else has to change, it will feel like the tournament is plagued.
It’s not just the tournament that is being affected either. WWE’s list of injured stars is adding up. Seth Rollins, CM Punk, Dominik Mysterio, McIntyre, Charlotte Flair, Jimmy Uso, and Rhea Ripley, are just a few.
