“We are facing an authoritarian tic that we have never seen since Franco”

The president of PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóohas invited this Saturday the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchezto leave office, after having shown an “authoritarian tic” that in Spain had not been seen “since Franco”.

At an electoral event in Ulldecona (Tarragona), in which he supported the PP candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Alejandro Fernandez, Feijóo has attacked Sánchezwho left his continuity at the head of the Government up in the air, after a Madrid court opened investigation proceedings against his wife, Begoña Gómez, for alleged influence peddling and corruption in business following the complaint by Manos Médicas.

Feijóo has thus accused Sánchez and the socialists of “attack” judges and media and has compared the president of the Government with the former president of the Generalitat Carles Puigdemont.

The president of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, speaks at a popular meal in Ulldecona, together with the PP candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Alejandro Fernández.

“The problem with Puigdemont and Sánchez is justice, it is not politics, it is that they have to be accountable to justice, because if not, what breaks is democracythe separation of powers and the equality of citizens before the law”, he stressed. Although “a privileged elite is believed to be unpunished and above the rest”, he warned, “no one is more than anyone”, Catalonia and Spain They are “much more” than Puigdemont and Sánchez.

Addressing Sánchez, who on Monday will reveal whether or not he continues to head the Government, he invited him to resign: “If you want to leave, Go away, there is no problem. Yes, in total, you have two possibilities: either you leave now or we will make you leave at the polls, with more difference than in July 2023.”

Feijóo considers it “a show”

For the leader of the PP, “Sánchez’s ‘show’ these days is unbecoming of a European leader” and “the most serious thing is not the adolescent tantrum he is having, it is not the international embarrassment to which he has subjected” the Spaniards, but “the authoritarian tics of the Government, his party and the president.”

“Sánchez, the PSOE and the Government believe they are unpunished before everything and everyone. Whatever their name is, you are subject to the law. Whatever position you have, you are subject to the Spanish judges and courts. If not, there is no democracy,” he stressed.

In his opinion, “we are facing an authoritarian tic that we have never seen since Franco. Never in the history of Spain have we seen something like this.” Directly questioning Sánchez, he added: “The question is not whether it is worth being president of the Government, the question is “if Spain deserves to have a president like you.”

“Her navel earrings”

Feijóo has regretted that Sánchez and Puigdemont try to get citizens to “pay attention to their navel”, instead of the two of them being aware of people’s problems. “They call it socialism, nationalism, independence, but it’s really called narcissism. They believe they are more important than others, they believe that the whole world revolves around them, and that’s enough,” he added.

According to Feijóo, “politics is not about navel-gazing, it is about solving people’s problems, and not about people worry about the problems that two politicians have in Spain”.

CIS flash survey

In the midst of the controversy over the decision of the President of the Government, the Sociological Research Center (CIS) is preparing its ‘flash survey’ on Pedro Sánchez’s decision to take a break from his public agenda and consider resigning from the position of president of the Government from 1,807 interviews.

CIS sources have informed Servimedia that the sample of this special survey consists of more than 1,800 telephone queries to Spanish citizens so that evaluate Sánchez’s reaction to the judicial proceedings opened against his wife for a possible case of influence peddling in his professional relationships with businessmen.

The result of this CIS ‘flash survey’ will be known on Monday “after the intervention of the president” of the Government, who plans to communicate his decision throughout the morning.
