According to Andrew Haydon at Simply Plastics, just a simple lick of paint has the potential to boost it by £2,000.

With house prices falling by 0.2% in March 2024, it’s more important than ever that homeowners do what they can to help boost the value of their properties.
What’s more, property values increased by 1.6% annually, taking the average UK house price to £261,142.
It’s impossible to predict what will happen to house prices in 2024 as there are so many factors involved.
So in any case, you should still be presenting your home to potential buyers as the best version of itself.

Tidy Your Garden

A messy or overgrown garden can drastically reduce your home’s value, according to Andrew.
“But you can easily rectify this for FREE by simply boiling a kettle,” he revealed.
“For gardens full of weeds, just pour over some freshly boiled water to kill weeds at the roots, wait until they are cool – and then pull up.
“Couple this with a freshly mown lawn and sweep of any patios or pathways and you could easily add up to £1,000 to your property value.”
Add a Garden Structure

Buyers won’t just be looking at the inside of your home, they’ll be putting a lot of value on your outdoor spaces too – so you need to make them as appealing as possible.
“This could be as simple as building a shed or gazebo,” Andrew said.
“If you already have a shed or greenhouse, replace any worn-out windows with new acrylic or polycarbonate glazing and give them a fresh lick of paint which can cost as little as £50.
“But if you really want to boost your property, look at adding a more modern structure like a ‘shedoffice’ or garden bar.
“These structures cost a bit more to install, but add a tonne of functionality that potential buyers will happily pay an extra £5,000 for.”
Update Hardware

Nothing screams luxury like a crystal door knob or golden handle – and it turns out, putting these on is an inexpensive way to boost your home’s value.
“Updating the hardware on your cabinets and drawers is a simple but inexpensive way to give your kitchen or bathroom a fresh look without needing to do a costly refit,” Andrew said.
“You can find stylish hardware for under £5 per piece, or even cheaper if you want to go second-hand.
“This will easily add £500 to your home’s value – especially if your cabinets look quite outdated and old!”
Have a Declutter

Nothing is worse than attending a house viewing and being met with a cluttered, untidy space.
Having a tidy-up can make a world of difference by allowing potential buyers to visualise themselves in the home – and can easily add £2,000 to your home’s value, Andrew said.
“Start with decorative knick-knacks and items like photos that can be easily put into storage, before moving on to larger pieces of furniture like extra armchairs or bookshelves,” he said.
“This will help to create more of a ‘blank canvas’ that is far more appealing to buyers, and makes packing up when you move out a bit quicker too.
“You could even make money to invest back into your home if you decide to sell items you no longer need, such as clothes on sites like Vinted, or homeware on Facebook Marketplace.”
Repaint Your House

A fresh coat of paint can go a long way in boosting the value of your home, Andrew revealed.
Neutral colours like grey and beige are particularly useful in making a space feel more modern and thus desirable to potential buyers.

“You can do it for as little as £30 a pop, depending on the size of your room and the quality and finish of the paint you choose,” the expert said.
“It might seem simple, but a lick of paint can refresh a room and give your home a new lease of life, easily adding £2,000 to your property’s value.”
