Europe will regulate artificial intelligence

Andorra la VellaThe Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) has unanimously approved the Draft Framework Convention on artificial intelligence, human rights, democracy and the rule of law. This framework agreement becomes ‘de facto’ the first international treaty on artificial intelligence (AI) that aims to regulate it to mitigate the risks posed by the misuse of this technology for democracy, rights humans and the rule of law.

The debate prior to its approval had two interventions by the Andorran delegation. On the one hand, the head of the delegation, Berna Coma, highlighted “Andorra’s commitment to this initiative, both in the political and technical spheres” and emphasized the need to have “d ‘an inclusive legal framework for this emerging technology’. For her part, Susanna Vela emphasized that “It is time to act as a society, collectively defining the ethical and political horizons of artificial intelligence” and added that it is necessary to invest so that “AI contributes to progress, leaving no one behind”.
