Even when he’s not on TV because of injury, CM Punk’s name still makes the rounds on the internet. It comes with the territory of being an outspoken, controversial individual who speaks his mind and sometimes rubs people the wrong way. Sami Zayn recently opened up about his relationship with CM Punk, and thankfully for everyone involved, the two seem to be on the same page with a clean slate.

Sami Zayn: “He Said His Peace, I Said My Peace. Clean Slate.”

CM Punk had a few detractors upon his return to WWE last November. Whether it’s fully real or not is less relevant when it comes to pro wrestling, as it’s an easy medium to blur the lines between fiction and reality. Wrestlers like Seth Rollins & Drew McIntyre have let their disdain for Punk be known, with a few others having been openly apprehensive about Punk’s return, especially after the way things ended with his previous employer.

Sami Zayn recently sat down for an interview with Gorilla Position and shared a few details about his current relationship with CM Punk. He spoke about them having issues in the past, but that there’s a clean slate between them now after the two talked it out:

I’ve known him for a very long time. There’s been some ups, there’s been some downs. He showed up and I was like, ‘I just don’t want this to be weird. Say whatever you need to say.’ He said his peace, I said my peace. Clean slate. That’s it.

Are There More CM Punk Feuds That Fans Don’t Know About?

Sami Zayn offered a little more insight into his and others’ relationship with CM Punk, while keeping it vague enough:

I’ve found in my experience that it’s kind of exhausting to hate people. The only person who is mad is you. They’re just walking around, and you’re under a cloud of negativity. I just don’t want that cloud. Has there been some weird stuff between us in the past? Sure, I think 90% of people you ask about Punk would say the same. As far as I’m concerned, we have to work together, you’re here, you’ve been through a lot in your life, let’s just clean slate and start over. That’s it.

It’s interesting to note how Sami mentions that “90% of people” have had some issue with Punk. As most fans are aware, Zayn’s best friend Kevin Owens has also had minor beef with CM Punk in the past. Owens is also close with AEW’s The Young Bucks, so the friction between KO and Punk is much more apparent than with other wrestlers. However, just like Sami, KO was ready to move on and enjoy his work environment.

CM Punk made his straight edge lifestyle into a part of his wrestling persona. However, many other wrestlers follow this same path in their lives.

CM Punk and Sami Zayn have never competed in a match. It’ll be fun to see one day once Punk is fully healthy and able to go in the ring.
