Do Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock have a need for Speed… 3?
The co-stars of the 1994 action thriller — which celebrates its 30th anniversary next month — appeared on Tuesday’s installment of the 50 MPH podcast, where host Kris Tapley broached the idea of a third film.
“Before I die, before I leave this planet, I do think that Keanu and I need to do something in front of the camera,” Bullock shared, per People. “Are we, you know, in wheelchairs or with walkers? Maybe. Maybe. Are we on little scooters at Disneyland?”
Bullock’s portrayal of Annie Porter is considered by many to be her breakout role. In the film, she and Los Angeles police officer Jack Traven (Reeves) are on a bus that must remain driving at 50 miles per hour in order to prevent a bomb from detonating.
While Bullock noted that “you can’t force” a future collab between herself and her co-star, Reeves felt that “there is a siren call to it.”
“Like there’s something that wasn’t done,” he continued. “I think I would love to work with you again before our eyes close.”
In terms of a third film, Reeves added, “I mean I think, you know — we’d freakin’ knock it out of the park.”
Reeves did not appear in Speed 2: Cruise Control due to having issues with the script, per People, and the proved to be a box office flop in 1997. Nonetheless, Bullock and Reeves put their chemistry on display once again in The Lake House in 2006. Reeves also reflected on his chemistry with Bullock on Tuesday’s podcast episode, per Comic Book Resources.
“I think we had an affection,” Reeves said. “And the characters themselves have an affection. I think Jack and Annie’s is different than Sandra’s and Keanu’s, but I think we played off each other and I think it was just fun. I think, also, we kind of trusted each other, right?”
Bullock echoed this sentiment, noting that she “felt very comfortable with Keanu,” per Variety.
