Ryan Garcia Wants Gervonta Davis Rematch With One Condition

Highlights

  • Ryan Garcia challenges Gervonta Davis to a rematch at 144lbs catchweight, believing he will beat Davis worse than Haney.
  • Davis has a lightweight bout scheduled and has yet to move beyond super-lightweight, making the rematch’s likelihood uncertain.
  • Garcia accuses Davis of clout chasing and predicts Devin Haney will defeat Davis in a hypothetical matchup.

Ryan Garcia has officially thrown down the gauntlet, challenging Gervonta Davis to a rematch. Garcia seeks redemption after his lone professional defeat at the hands of Davis in April 2023, where he succumbed to a brutal body shot in the seventh round.

Coming off the biggest win of his career over the weekend, Garcia defeated super lightweight WBC champion Devin Haney, handing him his first defeat as a professional. After his fight with Davis, Garcia claimed he was weak from the rehydration clause and couldn’t perform at his best. However, he has now called on Davis to accept the rematch with one condition.

Garcia’s proposition comes with a condition: the fight with Davis must take place at a catchweight of 144lbs. This stipulation diverges from their initial bout agreement, where Garcia agreed to compete at 136lbs, alongside a stringent 10lbs rehydration clause which he claims left him severely drained.

Following his recent victory over Devin Haney, Garcia took to social media to reignite the flame, urging Davis to step into the ring once more. “Everyone wanna talk about the little Stupid tank,” Garcia tweeted on Tuesday. “Let’s fight, nuff of that funny talk. Come see me at 144 and stop the talk.”

Despite Garcia’s fervent plea, Davis has a scheduled lightweight bout against Frank Martin on June 15 and has yet to venture beyond super-lightweight in his career. The likelihood of Davis accepting Garcia’s terms remains uncertain.

Davis Celebrated Haney’s Defeat To Garcia

Ryan Garcia expressed his belief that Devin Haney would emerge victorious in a hypothetical matchup against Gervonta Davis. “Gervonta wasn’t a hard fight, I was just weak,” Garcia stated confidently. “That’s not a hard fight for me, I will beat Gervonta worse than I beat Haney. He will never fight me at 145lbs so it doesn’t really matter.”

Garcia further speculated on Davis’s intentions, suggesting he was attempting to engage in superficial interactions for attention. “That’s why he was trying to tweet me all nice, ‘Oh Ryan, let’s go to the club.’ He tried to go out with me – pause. He’s just clout chasing… Haney beats Tank. Tank will try to hurt him, but Tank won’t get to Haney. Definitely, Haney will beat Tank.”
