On the back of Rhea Ripley’s injury, WWE needed to crown a new Women’s World Champion after The Judgment Day member vacated the gold. There were some clear favorites going into the battle royal to determine the new champion, such as Becky Lynch and Nia Jax, but one which stuck out to many fans was Liv Morgan, who was the one that injured Ripley in the first place. In the end, it was Becky Lynch who last eliminated Morgan to win the belt, and contrary to some online opinion, this was the correct choice. Liv Morgan has a lot of fans, and over the years she has received some pushes and even world title gold. However, nothing has stuck for Morgan, and her booking has been continuously up and down and questionable. She has never found a character which has maintained momentum or star power, so to hot shot a world title reign under a new gimmick which isn’t developed would be a big mistake. Morgan needs to find her identity after a lengthy absence and with her only just getting back to being a regular on TV.

Morgan turned heel when she attacked Ripley and proceeded to mock her for an injury, but she needs to find a voice and personality that is proven to work before she leads the whole brand and division. It has been going well this far, but it has literally been a couple of weeks since becoming a heel for the first time in years, so she needs time to develop and hone her character. It would be a big mistake if she immediately won the world championship whilst still fine-tuning things, and this could work against her standing as a top star and make things feel disjointed.

Becky Lynch was the right choice to take up the reins from Ripley post-WrestleMania, giving WWE some star power in that role and allowing Lynch to have a run with the gold after two years of not being a world champion (two years in which she has put in some great and consistent work too in feuds with Trish Stratus, Tiffany Stratton, Bayley, and Nia Jax). This doesn’t mean that Morgan should not win the world title, but instead, it means that Morgan’s victory will come via defeating Lynch. Their feud in 2022 was the first taste of what Morgan could do in a prominent role, so there is a story to tell in terms of her getting revenge and finally beating Lynch.

At this point in time, Lynch is in contention for being the greatest female wrestler to ever grace WWE, so it would provide a big rub for Morgan to defeat her on an upcoming PLE such as Money in the Bank, Clash at the Castle, or even SummerSlam. It would give Morgan a much bigger and better moment than winning a battle royal on an episode of RAW. To steady the ship after a change in plans, a relied upon and veteran name is best, and in the meantime, Morgan can build up to an even bigger win.
