Highlights

  • Free agent Matt Hardy creating buzz around himself by teasing his next move on social media, talking to both AEW and WWE.
  • Hardy using his brand to promote himself, creating a lot of buzz around a potential deal with one of the wrestling companies.
  • Possibility of Hardy joining new Wyatt Family in WWE intriguing fans, even though extent of WWE’s interest in him remains unknown.

Matt Hardy has been using social media recently in a manner that has caught some WWE and AEW fans off guard. Posting videos and teasers of his past relationship with Bray Wyatt, while also promoting WWE’s recent video clues suggesting at the return of Uncle Howdy, fans are wondering if Matt Hardy is somehow involved. After all, why would he be actively promoting WWE content? He gave that answer during a recent podcast episode.

While speaking on the latest “Extreme Life of Matt Hardy” podcast, Hardy admitted that he’s hyping interest around his next move. As a free agent looking to secure a deal, Hardy explained that his job is to get himself noticed. Doing so will either lead to an extension in AEW, or WWE might show interest in bringing him back. Apparently, it’s working. He’s noted he’s talked to both companies about his future.

He explained:

“Full disclosure. I am doing what I should be doing as a free agent, creating hype around myself. Yes, I have been speaking with AEW constantly. I have been speaking with WWE. I’ve been speaking with several people across several different platforms.”

Hardy figures the next couple of weeks are going to be fun. Whether he was talking about the other teases he’s got coming or the fact he might be close to a deal with one company, he figures there will be a lot more of what he’s been doing recently. Some may argue it’s a bit unethical to be using the late Bray Wyatt and his likeness to drum up interest as a free agent, but he does have a history with Bray and there is some logic to potentially including him in the upcoming Uncle Howdy storyline.

The grass wasn’t greener in AEW for these wrestlers, who may just end up back in WWE by the end of the year.

He added, “So yeah, I am doing what I should be doing and my job as a brand, which I have to look at myself as a brand, a lot of my social media stuff is the Hardy brand. My job as a brand is to promote myself and to create buzz around myself and I feel like I do a pretty decent job with it whenever I am just able to kind of freelance and do whatever.”

Should WWE Even Consider Matt Hardy?

While Hardy says he’s talked to WWE, the extent of those conversations is unknown. Whether they have interest in bringing him in remains to be seen. He was never part of the Firefly Funhouse or the Wyatt Family, so it might be a stretch to include him. He’s also well past his prime as a performer. It would make sense he’d want to latch onto WWE and the hot storyline, but does WWE need him?

Matt Hardy said he’s open to doing the Broken Matt Hardy gimmick and would prefer to do it versus the typical Matt Hardy character.
