‘Just an excuse’ – Eurovision star Bambi Thug takes swipe at RTE presenter’s ‘jarring’ comment & refusal to play song

BAMBIE Thug has slammed an RTE radio presenter for refusing to play their song on air and stated “we need more support”.

The Eurovision contestant took to the stage in Malmo, Sweden last night for the semi-final and landed Ireland a place in the Grand Finals for the first time since 2018.

Back in January, the Cork star beat out five other artists in the Eurosong competition with their eccentric pop hit Doomsday Blue.

Bambie has been praised across the board for their trailblazing sound and unique lyrics, however, the Irish pop star has also received their fair share of criticism online.

Recently, RTE Radio One presenter Louise Duffy told how she wouldn’t be playing Doomsday Blue on her show.

She said: “I can appreciate what they are doing and how special that is in its own area but I wouldn’t be playing it on my show because I feel it’s too jarring for maybe an older listener.”

And Bambie was quick to respond to Ms Duffy’s comment.

The 31-year-old said: “I would love to see what Louise’s own playlist is like on a daily basis. I would probably be like, ‘Next’. Saying it’s ‘jarring” is just an excuse not to play the song.

“We need more support across the board. We should be qualifying anyway, there should be no talk of Ireland not qualifying.

“That’s absolute blasphemy. I beat the odds already!

The singer continued: “I wasn’t favourite to win Eurosong. It’s great that we’re climbing the odds, but it’s not impacting my sense of worth as an artist and my ability to perform.

“I’m not worried about my performance and I’m not worried about the millions of viewers watching at home. I’m so grateful for this platform.”

Bambie Thug hailed for ‘best’ performance in Eurovision history as fans ‘blown away’

And Bambie delivered a surreal spectacle of witchcraft and ballet at last night’s Eurovision semi-final.

Screaming a song about placing a hex on an ex, it was Europe that fell under the spell of the singer

Emerging from a spell circle to dance with a devil, Bambie, clothed in black feathers and a horned headdress, beckoned the audience in with long black nails before delivering an explosion of gothic pop, as jets of flames erupted through the stage in Malmo.

Going grand

RTE’s Marty Whelan said: “So well deserved. Well done Bambie Thug. Can’t wait for Saturday’s final.”

Taoiseach Simon Harris also hailed the star, saying: “Congratulations to Bambie Thug, who has qualified for the Eurovision final tonight.

“Bambie will become the first Irish act in the Eurovision finals since 2018.

“It is time to bring the Eurovision back to Ireland and Bambie is the act to do it!”

Bambie was announced as the ninth act through to the final in a spellbinding finish.
