DO you ever get fed up with your garden furniture turning damp and mouldy or rusty?
It turns out we are making a very simple mistake with our chairs and tables that can avoid damage.
Ali Wooldridge, Co-Founder of luxury garden furniture company, Gardenesque, advises not to place garden furniture on the grass over spring and summer.
Ali explains that by placing garden furniture on the grass, it increases its exposure to damp and moisture, which is the main reason for the appearance of damp, rust and mould.
She said: “Not only does this ruin your furniture on an aesthetic level, but it will also lead to decay over time.
“Even furniture of the upmost quality won’t be able to withstand prolonged exposure to damp and moisture.”
Placement on your lawn will also damage or even kill your grass too, warns Ali.
She added: “It can minimise grass growth and potentially even leave you with bald patches.”
Positioning your garden furniture on a patio is best, according to the furniture expert, but you should be mindful of leafy areas.
She added: “Placing under trees and tall shrubs is fine, but it may require more regular cleaning of leaves and debris to upkeep appearances and quality.”
And it’s important to keep your furniture covered with well fitted covers when not in use to keep it clean and fresh.
Ali continued: “Furniture covers will also protect from leaves, dirt and garden debris that may be blown onto the furniture.
“Ensure that you regularly lift and waft your covering to allow airflow and prevent condensation, as this can lead to mildew.”
The nation is clearly ready to get their gardens ready for warmer days ahead, with searches for ‘garden design ideas’ increasing by 83 per cent in the last three months.
If your patio is in need of some TLC after winter, it turns out there’s a bargain buy from B&Q that gardening fans have been going wild for – and they say it works like “magic” at removing patio stains.
It comes after a woman took to Facebook group Mrs Hinch Cleaning Tips and asked: “Looking for advice on cleaning my patio.
Gardening tips and hacks
“Every year I clean it with my pressure washer but over the summer I have to keep doing it to keep on top of it as it still goes green.
“This year however it’s REALLY BAD!
“Looking for a product to put on that will prevent it from the green coming back so quickly, does anyone have any recommendations?”
Furniture covers will also protect from leaves, dirt and garden debris that may be blown onto the furniture.
