CARLOW enjoyed its first visit of newly-elected taoiseach Simon Harris last Friday… and like many visitors to the town, where else to pay a visit but Shaws.
The taoiseach was in Carlow to attend a special conference on agriculture at the Woodford Dolmen Hotel, hosted by the European People’s Party group (EPP) in the European Parliament, led by Seán Kelly MEP Ireland South and EPP vice-chair Siegfried Mureşan MEP (Romania). Also among the attendees were Maria Walsh MEP and Colm Markey MEP.
Following the conference, taoiseach Harris enjoyed a very warm welcome on a walkabout in Carlow town, meeting locals and calling into a number of businesses, including Shaws, to congratulate them on their 75th anniversary.
The taoiseach also met Fine Gael local election candidates cllr Fergal Browne, mayor Tom O’Neill and Paul Doogue.
Cllr Browne presented the taoiseach with a copy of **Carlow Castle – a History**, compiled and illustrated by Gala Hutton, as it covers the history of when Co Carlow extended into parts of Wicklow, the current constituency of the taoiseach.
