QUIZZES, lively conversation, posters, face painting and lots of delicious snacks were all on offer when teacher Una Byrne and transition year students organised a day to celebrate German culture in Presentation College, Carlow.

The library was transformed into a spectrum of colour when it was decorated with German, Austrian and Swiss bunting and flags, while some students had flags painted onto their faces.

There were also quizzes about Germany and the EU in English and German, thanks to students Michael Duke and Seamus Bible, who organised and hosted one of them.

During the day, students enjoyed waffles, pretzels and German sweets. There was some German music and popular songs as well as several tongue twisters – sweets were awarded to all who managed to articulate these tricky phrases.

Ms Byrne would like to thank the transition years, who helped in the preparations and on the day. It was such a great success that she’s planning a week-long event next year.
