Andorra Telecom awarded the first prize for best video game to student Nil Farré

Andorra la VellaAndorra Telecom awarded this morning the prizes for the best video games designed and developed by the students attending the training organized by the operator and the University of Andorra as part of the celebration of Video Game Hall.

This year, although the celebration of the Saló 2024 took place in the month of November, during the month of February the specific trainings on the creation of video games offered by theUdA with the support ofAndorra Telecom.

The aim of these trainings is to make young people aware of a branch of information and communication technologies in which various disciplines such as art, script creation, visual effects, programming and even psychology come together and marketing. To reward and thank the effort and motivation of the young participants in the training, Andorra Telecom decided to award a prize to the three best proposals of the training “Video game design through a proposal document which consisted of presenting in a document a proposal for the creation of a video game.

The criteria used to choose the winners were the following:

  • Originality: assessed if the game presented any innovative ideas in the field of story or gameplay.
  • Feasibility: Assessed whether the presented game could be developed by a small team of people and a relatively short time.
  • Relationship of the idea with Andorra: one of the requirements was that the game had some connection with Andorra.
  • Document: it was evaluated whether it was formally well explained how the game would be in the document presented.

The winners of this 2024 edition have been Nil Farré (1st), Joel Gonçalves (2nd) i Roger Rodriguez (3rd). The prizes consisted of different accessories to continue the training and expand the possibilities in the development and design of video games.

George Nadalgeneral manager ofAndorra Telecom, has thanked “all the young participants in these trainings, the teachers and the University, for the commitment to an initiative that wants to promote STEAM trainings, specifically in a sector, that of video games that does not stop growing and that represents a job opportunity for many young people, also why not, from our country”. Nadal highlighted “the new profiles that have appeared in this sector, such as that of video game tester, gaming support agent or gamer promoter, very innovative, although it is still the technical and creative profiles such as developers, artists and designers, which have the most weight in this industry”, he concluded.

On the other hand, Michael Nicholasrector of the University of Andorrasaid that “currently two of the winning ideas are being developed within the framework of computer science studies in the subject of video games” and added that “the importance that technology has and will continue to have in all economic sectors and also in the lives of all people it is reflected this year in the high pre-registration of students for the bachelor’s degree in Computer Science at the University of Andorra”.

He also insisted that “the ever-increasing complexity of technology has led the public university to design the new Master’s in Data Analytics that was launched last year and that the next year will already have its first graduates. This new master’s degree is not only aimed at those with a background in technology but is also open to business professionals who want to be up to date on the use of the latest technologies to improve their business”.
