Jim Ross is notorious for telling amazing stories on commentary. JR revealed many great stories in his latest book, Business Is About To Pick Up.

Despite that, he’s attempted to be regularly available for AEW to ensure that he continues adding to the product while fulfilling his contract. Throughout his health complications, the WWE Hall Of Famer has kept fans updated with the highs and lows, and during a conversation with Sports Illustrated, he gave his latest update.

“My health is better than it’s been in over a year, I’m happy to say. My right hip, that’s healing and getting better. My radiation wound from skin cancer–and I’m cancer-free–is still healing. Vaping has helped. It’s allowed me to stop taking pain medication and get me through the night. I’m feeling good and I’m still doing what I love.”

Jim Ross Reflects On Working AEW Revolution

Despite the health issues that JR has been dealing with lately, he still managed to turn up for the AEW Revolution PPV where he joined the commentary team for the last two matches. This included Sting’s incredible retirement match, which provided a full circle moment for JR due to how heavily he’s been involved in calling moments from Sting’s early career.

It was known at the time that JR wasn’t 100% healthy, but the fact he turned up showcased his commitment and professionalism. However, few knew the extent of the pain that Ross had to endure to be part of that event.

“I had my right hip replaced, and it’s healing nicely, but my surgeon and I failed to schedule a follow-up, so I didn’t realize I had 28 staples in my hip.It was my first trip after the hip surgery. I kept thinking to myself, ‘This is painful.’ I thought it was me. Really, it was the staples causing all the pain.”

Ross will have the chance to call more AEW matches moving forward though, which should be a more enjoyable experience for him due to his improving health. JR confirmed that he signed a contract extension with the company with the focus set to be on PPV events for him.
