Green light from the Economic and Social Council (CES) to the new general quota of workers that will open soon and that the Government will set at 900 workers. The Minister of the Presidency, Economy, Work and Housing, and at the same time president of the CES, Conxita Marsol, has explained that the Government’s intention is to gradually adjust the quotas with the double objective of increasing the roots of workers while limiting the dynamics of growth population sustained in recent years. In fact, he pointed out that the new quota will replace the current one, which has not yet been sold out. In this sense, he congratulated himself because little by little “a balance is being found to respond to the needs of personnel and that companies can offer the best service to tourism”.
Marsol indicated that “we are on the right track so that the people who arrive in the country are increasingly qualified to attend to the needs of visitors and residents, with the aim of offering a good image of the country and guaranteeing a good quality of life of these workers”. The head of Presidency, Economy, Work and Housing has highlighted the importance of offering correct salary levels. The new general quota for workers establishes, in this sense, the increase of 4.6% in the minimum wages set for each sector of activity.
Apart from the new general quota for workers, the Government will reopen a specific quota for summer season workers, adapted mainly to the trade and hospitality sectors.
Conxita Marsol has explained that she will send to the Government the demand of the business sector to extend the exceptional measure of allowing the transfer of 390 seasonal workers to the general quota by accrediting only 4 months of experience. However, the minister has stated that she finds it difficult to respond to the demand, considering that the new general quota and the opening of the specific summer quota will already make it possible to respond to the needs of companies.
