You know the King Of The Ring tournament means a lot to these WWE competitors when they resort to controversial tweets to build up their matches! With Sheamus and Gunther set to face each other in a first round matchup on WWE Raw, The Celtic Warrior went a little too far on social media when he made a controversial comparison to Gunther.
Sheamus Makes A Controversial Implication Before Deleting Tweet
Sheamus and Gunther have had legendary battles over the last few years, a prime example of a Triple H-led creative direction that focuses on putting on bangers (after bangers). During Backlash, WWE officially revealed the competitors for the King and Queen of The Ring tournaments. Sheamus and Gunther continue their rivalry as first round opponents in the Raw bracket of the 2024 King Of The Ring.
Gunther Admits He Didn’t Want To Be A Part Of WWE Under The Old Regime
Has anyone’s trajectory in WWE been changed more by Triple H taking over than Gunther’s?
While hyping the bout online on his X account, though, Sheamus took things a little too far. He made an unsavory comparison to Gunther. He has since deleted the tweet that read:
“Hmmm.. an Austrian with a funny haircut, has a thing for military style coats, proclaims superiority over others, hangs out with Germans and betrays his Italian ally..”
While it’s not explicitly stated, the reference to Nazis, and in particular their leader, Adolf Hitler, is apparent. The Italian ally in question here is Giovanni Vinci, who was kicked out of Imperium when Ludwig Kaiser completely demolished him after a recent loss.
While nobody actually thinks Sheamus was legitimately trying to be malicious, the controversial comment rightfully raised eyebrows and has since been deleted.
Why WWE Fans Are Mad At WALTER’s Name Change To Gunther, Explained
WWE NXT wrestler WALTER has had his name changed to Gunther. Here’s why fans are upset about this name change.
It’s interesting to note the origin of Gunther’s name, and how this could be another subtle but totally inappropriate reference. When he initially got his name changed from WALTER, fans were furious, mostly because of its connection to a World War II figure, Gunther Stark, a German U-Boat Commander. Luckily, WWE dropped the “Stark” portion of the name, with Gunther eventually getting over as a name.
