Becoming the WWE Women’s Champion is a special honor that some wrestlers dream of when they walk through the doors of WWE. Women’s wrestling has been overlooked for many years with several fans treating it as the proverbial toilet break. Since women’s evolution is closing in on a decade, women’s wrestling has been taken seriously. Women are no longer treated as an afterthought. Women are now competing in several high-profile matches like their male counterparts.

Throughout WWE history there has been a plethora of WWE Women’s Championships. The original version of the title from 1956-2010, the WWE Divas Championship, the Women’s World Championship (formerly SmackDown Women’s Championship), and the WWE Women’s Championship has reverted to its old name as it was called the Raw Women’s Championship for seven years. Some Women’s Champions have had outstanding championship runs and managed to hold the gold for over a year in a single reign, some have done that in an accumulation of title reigns, but some of the all-time greats had good runs as champions.

10 Sasha Banks’ Women’s Championship Reigns Have Been Dreadful For Her Standards

Unquestionably, Sasha Banks is one of the greatest female wrestlers to grace a WWE ring. However, the Boss’ haul of six WWE Women’s Championship reigns doesn’t paint the picture of how poor her championship reigns were.

Banks won the Raw Women’s Championship five times but she failed to defend the title successfully. She dropped the title to Charlotte three times, once to Alexa Bliss, and finally to Asuka at SummerSlam 2020. Banks’ SmackDown Women’s Championship run was her best title reign as she ended Bayley’s historic 380-day reign at Hell in a Cell 2020, and Bianca Belair curtailed her reign in a landmark main event on night one of WrestleMania 37.

9 Melina Was One Of The Top Heel Champions In The Ruthless Aggression Era

Melina was originally introduced as the valet of Joey Mercury and Johnny Nitro in MNM, but she became a full-time in-ring competitor from 2007 onwards when she clinched the WWE Women’s Championship. Melina successfully defended the Women’s Championship at WrestleMania 23 against Ashley in a Lumberjill match.

Melina had some incredible tussles with the likes of Beth Phoenix, Mickie James, and Michelle McCool over the Women’s and Divas Championships. Melina became the first woman to win the WWE Women’s Championship and Divas Championship multiple times, which is an incredible feat. A five-time WWE Women’s Champion overall, Melina was a champion for 393 days in total.

8 Mickie James Is An Underrated WWE Women’s Champion

Mickie James is a future WWE Hall of Famer and she deserves to be inducted as she became the second woman after Michelle McCool to win the WWE Women’s Championship and the Divas Championship. Mickie made history as the only woman to beat both Trish and Lita for the WWE Women’s Championship.

Mickie is an incredible in-ring performer, and some of her rivalries with the likes of Michelle McCool, Melina, and WWE Hall of Famers Trish Stratus, Lita, and Beth Phoenix were fascinating to watch. A six-time WWE Women’s Champion, Mickie held gold for 444 days.

7 Alexa Bliss Has An Impressive Resume At A Young Age

Alexa Bliss doesn’t get the recognition she deserves like her Four Horsewomen counterparts, and she has achieved just as much as them. The Goddess is a five-time WWE Women’s Champion, and in 2017, she became the first woman to win the SmackDown Women’s and the Raw Women’s Championships.

Bliss’ best work was as a heel, and her feud over the Raw Women’s Championship with Bayley was underwhelming. The Five Feet of Fury became the first woman to retain a championship inside the Elimination Chamber in 2018, and for 505 days, she’s got her hands on Women’s Championships.

6 Beth Phoenix Was The Toughest Female Star In The Ruthless Aggression Era

WWE Hall of Fame Beth Phoenix had a fantastic WWE career. Unquestionably, the Glamazon was a better heel than a babyface. 2008 was the best year of her career as she was virtually the WWE Women’s Champion for the entire calendar year barring a few months between April and August.

Phoenix used her size and strength to her advantage and she is in a small group of wrestlers who won both the WWE Women’s and Divas Championships. Phoenix’s Divas Championship reign was her longest Women’s Title reign lasting 203 days, but the competition she had during her Women’s Championship reigns with Melina and Mickie James as her main rivals was a lot stronger.

5 Bayley Became WWE Women’s Champion At WrestleMania 40

“The Role Model” Bayley is a history-maker as she is the first female Grand Slam Champion in WWE history. Bayley deserves that accolade as she has been selfless throughout her WWE career. 2024 has already been one of the best years in Bayley’s career. She won the women’s Royal Rumble match and defeated her former Damage CTRL stablemate Iyo Sky at WrestleMania 40 to become a four-time WWE Women’s Champion.

Bayley’s second reign as SmackDown Women’s Champion lasted a record-breaking 380 days. She deserves a lot of credit for her run with the strap as the majority of her reign was during the COVID-19 pandemic. Bayley has had to be patient as she had to wait over three years to be a Women’s Champion once more, and the Role Model has held a Women’s Championship for 600 days collectively which is an outstanding achievement.

4 Trish Stratus Dominated The Women’s Division In The 2000s

The seven-time WWE Women’s Champion Trish Stratus deserves much credit for drastically improving in the ring. Trish’s full-time WWE career lasted six years, and she was a record-breaking WWE Women’s Champion for 13 years.

The crop of women’s wrestlers that WWE had in the Attitude Era and Ruthless Aggression Era at its disposal was competitive. Trish competed with the likes of Lita, Victoria, Molly Holly, Jazz, Jacqueline, Ivory, and Mickie James over the Women’s Championship. Trish left a lasting legacy in the women’s division and many fans acknowledged Trish’s efforts for improving women’s wrestling.

3 Becky Lynch Became A Grand Slam Champion In 2023

Becky Lynch is unquestionably, one of the biggest names to compete in a WWE ring. Lynch was the first-ever SmackDown Women’s Champion, a title she would go on to hold four times. Big Time Becks’ finest hour was at WrestleMania 35 when she defeated Ronda Rousey and Charlotte Flair in the first women’s main event to win both the Raw and SmackDown Women’s Championships.

The Man’s 398-day Raw Women’s Championship reign had flaws with her underwhelming title defenses against Lacey Evans. However, she had some strong title defenses against Sasha Banks. Lynch finally became a Grand Slam Champion in 2023 when she clinched the NXT Women’s Championship, cementing the legacy of the Four Horsewomen as arguably the strongest quartet of women in WWE history.

Lynch became a seven-time WWE Women’s Champion as she was the beneficiary of Rhea Ripley relinquishing the Women’s World Championship, and she won a Battle Royal for the vacant gold by last eliminating Liv Morgan.

2 No Woman Has Held More WWE Women’s Championships Than Charlotte Flair

Charlotte Flair obliterated Trish Stratus’ record haul of seven WWE Women’s Championship reigns, by doubling that with 14 WWE Women’s Championship reigns. The Queen became the final Divas Champion when she ended Nikki Bella’s 301-day run with the title at Night of Champions 2015. She held that title until WrestleMania 32 when the gold was retired in favor of the WWE Women’s Championship.

Despite being a record-breaking 14-time WWE Women’s Champion not all of Flair’s title reigns are memorable. Since she won the title many times, fans will get confused with some of Flair’s championship reigns. Surprisingly, Charlotte hasn’t held the Women’s Championship for a year unlike her Four Horsewomen counterparts Bayley and Becky Lynch, who managed to do that. Charlotte’s father Ric and John Cena have 16 World Title reigns apiece, and Charlotte will be looking to break that record which is a reality, and cement her legacy as the greatest women’s wrestler of all time.

1 The Fabulous Moolah’s WWE Women’s Championship Record Is Set In Stone

The Fabulous Moolah’s reputation has been tarnished but she is a former four-time WWE Women’s Champion. Moolah’s first Women’s Championship reign lasted 28 years and no one will break that record. In reality, Moolah dropped the title several times between 1956-1984, but WWE didn’t recognize the title changes until Wendi Richter ended her lengthy Women’s Championship reign.

Moolah unexpectedly won the WWE Women’s Championship for a fourth time at No Mercy 1999 when she dethroned Ivory. Mercifully, Moolah’s Women’s Championship reign only lasted eight days as she dropped the title back to Ivory on an episode of Raw.
