On a recent episode of Raw, Cody Rhodes showed up and thanked the fans for welcoming him even though he’s technically now a SmackDown Superstar as the holder of the WWE Undisputed Championship. That promo wasn’t a mistake as Cody was using the opportunity to potentially say goodbye before the WWE Draft and set the stage for a new babyface to take his place.
According to reports, WWE has already decided who they’d like to be the new face of the Raw brand. With Seth Rollins potentially out for two-eights months because of a serious leg injury, Jey Uso is being pegged as the new top guy.
Jey Uso Was Key In WWE’s Decision To Have Cody Rhodes Lose At WrestleMania 39
There was a point prior to the event where everyone was agreed Rhodes should win.
As per the Wrestling Observer Radio:
“The idea was basically to tell you that he’s a SmackDown guy, and this was his farewell, and to endorse Jey Uso because with Seth Rollins gone, Jey Uso is the guy now.”
The idea was for Cody to give Jey the rub on the way out. WWE has been beyond pleased with the way Jey has gotten over on Raw as a singles star. The company believes he has the ability to carry the brand as its top babyface, potentially regardless of how long Rollins is out. It may also speak to WWE’s plans for the WWE Draft which starts this Friday. First, if the company believes in Jey Uso, they obviously aren’t moving him from Raw to SmackDown. Second, their confidence in the Main Event gimmick could mean they don’t plan on moving a huge babyface draw from SmackDown to Raw.
This doesn’t mean a big name won’t move, only that WWE doesn’t feel the need to in order to make up for the absences of Cody and Seth. The belief is that Damain Priest and Jey Uso could be the right guys to push as the new top draws on Mondays.
What Does This Mean For The Bloodline?
If Jey is staying on Raw, this may also hint that WWE isn’t intending to bring all of the Usos and other members of The Bloodline onto the same brand. There’s been speculation that The Bloodline would split into two factions, with Jey, Jimmy and Roman on one side. Keeping the Usos apart suggests if this is a plan, it’s a long ways off.
Instead, WWE may be looking to create a new version of The Bloodline with Solo Sikoa leading the pack and bringing in new members beyond Tama Tonga to join him.
