CONFIRMATION that David Moyes will leave West Ham at the end of the season has sprouted hope – however faint – among Irish fans.
The 61-year-old’s tumultuous second tenure will come to a close on the back of unrelenting fan pressure.
Irons followers have never taken to him and his famously pragmatic approach – despite him delivering their first trophy for 43 years.
In addition to that momentous Europa Conference League triumph he has continually guided them to more than respectable league finishes.
They finished a ‘best of the rest’ 7th during the 2021/22 campaign to get themselves back into European football in the first place.
And it’s not like things have petered out this season as they sit a comfortable 9th in the standings.

For those reasons, as well as his status as one of the more experienced and widely respected bosses in English football, Irish fans have voiced their hope that he might be persuaded to replace Stephen Kenny.
It’s almost certainly a pipe dream as the Scot’s reported annual salary has been around £4 million.
The cash-strapped FAI are believed to only be able to offer in the region of €500k per annum.
