Jeremy Skibicki is shown in an undated photo provided to CBC. In 2022, Winnipeg police charged him with first-degree murder in the deaths of four women: Morgan Harris, 39, Marcedes Myran, 26, and Rebecca Contois, 24, and a fourth unidentified woman, who has been given the name Mashkode Bizhiki’ikwe, or Buffalo Woman, by community members. Jeremy Skibicki has admitted in court that he killed four women in Winnipeg in 2022.

His lawyers are asking he be found not criminally responsible because of mental illness.

The Crown says that given it no longer has to prove Skibicki caused their deaths, they are willing to proceed with a judge alone trial.

The jury will be discharged Wednesday and the trial will then begin.

The defence first mentioned it planned to proceed with a not-criminally-responsible defence last Wednesday during their motion for a trial by judge alone.

More to come.
