Walton Goggins Addresses His Alleged Feud With ‘Justified’ Co-Star Timothy Olyphant: “We Were Both Obsessed With Our Own Points Of View”

Walton Goggins and Timothy Olyphant may have had a difficult time working together on Justified, but it appears they have since cleared the air.

The Fallout star recently spoke on the feud he and Olyphant had while working on the six-season FX show, noting that they later made amends once the show ended in 2015.

“We had a tough time towards the end of Justified,” Goggins recently told The Independent. “We were so deep into these people we were playing, and they were so polar opposite at this point in the story.”

He added,”I think we were both obsessed with our own points of view, just carrying the weight of this conflict,” noting, “I think we just needed to separate, like brothers.”

Goggins first alluded to trouble behind the scenes in Peter Biskind’s book Pandora’s Box, where he admitted that he and Olyphant “weren’t talking” by the end of the series.

But Goggins recently shared a photo of himself and Olyphant in Thailand, where Olyphant is filming FX’s upcoming Alien series and Goggins is filming The White Lotus Season 3.

“I respect and love him greatly, and I feel respected and loved by him greatly. We just needed to take a break in order to come back together,” Goggins said of his former co-star.

While Goggins spoke rather diplomatically about their alleged feud, Olyphant detailed exactly what it was about Goggins that “frustrated” him on the show.

Speaking to Vanity Fair, Olyphant maintained that he “adored working with Walt from the jump.” But they certainly had their creative differences.

He recalled, “There was this thing where, as the show went on, and especially as the thing came to an end, I would come from the writers’ room. They’d add things that were like, ‘Here’s what we need Walt to do in order to get to this finale we want.’ Then Walt would say his character would never do that, and then I’d be like, ‘Goddamn it.’ We’d get really frustrated with each other.”

Despite their differences, Olyphant would certainly work with the character actor again.

“I’ve always adored [Walton] and I love working with him, and he’s something special. I’d work with him again in a heartbeat,” he said. “And I’m assuming if we do it again he’ll be more predisposed to listen to me.”

The co-stars reunited when FX rebooted the show, teasing another possible face off between Olyphant’s Raylan Givens and Goggins’ Boyd Crowder in Justified: City Primeval.
