Highlights

  • Vince McMahon’s legal team has issued a response to a motion to strike filed by Janel Grant’s lawyer.
  • McMahon’s counsel claims Grant’s actions are an attempt to silence the former WWE chairman’s ability to respond.
  • This back and forth began when McMahon filed a memorandum to seek arbitration on Tuesday.

A lawsuit filed by former WWE employee Janel Grant has accused Vince McMahon of some very serious crimes, including sexual assault and even allegations of sexual trafficking. It will likely be a long time until the case is resolved either way, but representatives for Grant and McMahon have been trading significant blows this week. It began with McMahon filing a memorandum to seek arbitration on Tuesday, and after a response from Grant, McMahon’s representatives have hit back again.

In an email to TheSportster, McMahon’s counsel Jessica Rosenberg claimed Grant is trying to silence the former WWE chairman.

Plaintiff had no right to bring this case in a public court but did so anyway. Now that she chose this public forum to falsely accuse Mr. McMahon, she wants to silence his ability to respond. She can’t have it both ways.

There’s a chance McMahon isn’t punished even if the things he’s accused of are proven to be true.

Rosenberg’s statement on behalf of McMahon is in response to Grant and her team labeling the latest input from the defendant as “inflammatory lies”. The response to McMahon’s memorandum claims all the ex-WWE boss is trying to do is attack Grant’s character in an attempt to intimidate her, hoping that will eventually make the lawsuit just go away. The response states McMahon’s lies are easily refuted and highlights the weaknesses in his defense.

The Developing Lawsuit

As for what those alleged lies are, on Tuesday, a statement from McMahon’s legal team claimed that by publicly filing what are described as defamatory claims against McMahon, Grant has violated a binding contract to arbitrate. It describes all of the claims against McMahon made by Grant as “pure fiction”, that the two of them were in a consensual relationship, and that Grant was never coerced into doing anything against her will.

Clearly, this lawsuit isn’t going away anytime soon, no matter how much McMahon might want it to. What remains unclear is just how long this will go on for. With neither side willing to back down, it’s likely going to be a while before we learn the truth and any consequences, if needed, are doled out. One thing that does appear to have been determined is McMahon’s future with WWE in that he doesn’t appear to have one. McMahon is no longer a member of the TKO board and has sold the bulk of his shares in the company. WWE also appears to be avoiding mentioning him in any capacity, including the removal of his character from WWE 2K24’s roster before the game was released.
