Urgent warning to Leinster fans going to Croke Park for Northampton battle as travel chaos to unfold

LEINSTER fans attending Croke Park on Saturday are being advised to be cognisant of disruptions to the DART service.

Due to it being a Bank Holiday weekend, maintenance works will be carried out.

This will ensure no trains operate between Bray and Grand Canal Dock.

In total, 13 stations will be closed over the weekend.

Irish Rail defended the decision since Bank Holidays are the least disruptive times to carry out works.

In addition to that, the move was arranged in December, months before it arose that Croker would be stepping in as a temporary host for such a huge match.

Spokesman Barry Kenny told The Irish Independent that alternative public transport services like buses and Luas services will be increased to make up for it.

“There will be significant enhanced capacity across the bus services and Luas servicers as well to meet that demand.

“There will also be extra Darts from Howth to Grand Canal Dock, and extra Maynooth and Drogheda trains which directly serve Croke Park.

“There is a significant amount of resources committed to these works.”

Dublin Bus and Go-Ahead Ireland have confirmed that they will accept valid rail tickets on services between effected stations.

While unavoidable, the travel headache will prove particularly burdensome since a capacity crowd of 82,000 supporters will be flocking to Jones’ Road.

Andrew Porter faces Lee Chin in GAA vs rugby skills challenge

The notion of posh southsiders making a rare trip across the Liffey has generated plenty of laughs in the days leading up to the European Cup semi-final.

In one case, a Phibsborough pub is offering a complimentary pint for any Blues fan who shows up with that renowned rugby accessory – a Brown Thomas bag.

The Back Page’s promotional Instagram post added: “Welcoming your Leinster lions to the (northside) jungle.

“Kick-off 5:30pm with food/drinks in our before and after. Match on all the tellies too.”

Thirsty fans are best advised to get the drinks in either before or after the fixture too as the GAA’s policy of not serving during games will be in effect.
