In many Spanish cities and towns there are homes or buildings surrounded by an aura of mystery. In the city of Jaén there is one of them, and it is known as the ‘House of Fear’.
As reported by the portal specialized in housing Idealisticit is a modernist style building with four floors plus a lower chamber, located in the St. Bartholomew’s Square from the capital of Jaén, in front of the church of the same name.
It was built in 1862, when it was commissioned by the civil engineer, mayor, civil governor and prominent man of Jaén, Felipe Mingo García (1825-1888). But from early on, she was marked by tragedy.
During the construction of the house, in 1859, Mingo’s first-born daughter, María Fernanda, died. Another son, Francis of Assisi He died in Madrid in 1867 at the age of four.
A third son, also named Francisco de Asís, died in 1873. slipping from the hands of a nurse who played with him in the ‘House of Fear’. The family did not recover from this blow and Felipe Mingo and his wife died years later a few months apart.
The house has since been considered cursed, and there are records of accidental deaths of other tenants. Shortly after, the story began to spread that a ghost was haunting the house and left the door openbut shortly after it was learned that it was a man with a sheet, who had a lover in the property.
After Felipe Mingo left the building, it became known as the ‘House of Fear’. In the 1920s, a group of children were discovered sneaking into the house to move objects and make noises. Later, the property was the headquarters of Rustic Cadastre, where employees claimed to see furniture moving on its own, doors closing inexplicably or documents disappearing.
Today, the ‘House of Fear’ is completely renovated and Its interior houses homesalthough it is not known if alleged paranormal phenomena continue to occur.
