The Socialist Party is mired in an agonizing wait pending the decision made by its top leader, the President of the Government and Secretary General, Pedro Sanchezand they cross their fingers that he finally reconsiders and decides to continue leading the Executive.
In any case, even his closest collaborators admit that they do not know what decision he will make, whether the five days he has taken to reflect since last Wednesday will serve for him to rectify and take the reins of the Government again or On the contrary, this Monday he will announce his final goodbye.
This is indicated by several government sources from his closest circle, who do not convey optimism and simply “wish” that Sánchez is inclined to continue. The gesture is literal, one of them crosses his fingers when asked if the Federal Committee this Saturday – in which messages of support and the rally that brought together 12,500 ‘faithful’ have taken place – will be enough to convince him.
Another person of his utmost confidence shows his regret and considers that the situation “it doesn’t look good” with the president locked up for days, without speaking to anyone and only exchanging a few brief messages with collaborators who write to him to find out how he is and to encourage him. “It’s not a good sign,” he notes.

What no one doubts is that the final decision will be intimate, personal and will be made only together with his wife Begoña Gómez, since it was the complaint against her and the subsequent opening of proceedings by the judge, which triggered the announcement made in a letter addressed to citizens.
“I need to stop and reflect. I urgently need to answer the question of whether it is worth it, despite the mud into which the right and the extreme right try to turn politics. “If I should continue at the head of the Government or give up this high honor,” Sánchez wrote in a text that caught the entire country, including his ministers, by surprise.
In this sense, both sources confirm that the decision to write the letter was exclusive to Sánchez and No one could stop that decision because no one knew about it previously. The letter came from his own handwriting and was not verified by members of the Government, according to what they indicate.
The sources consulted do admit that that same Wednesday before the Executive control session in the Congress of Deputies, The president told his ministers that he had to reflect. However, those words did not predict what was coming a few hours later. On the contrary, they deny that Sánchez had decided to resign that day and his ministers stopped him.
In his letter, Sánchez said that he was taking a few days to reflect and announced that This Monday, April 29, he would announce his decision in an appearance before the media. In this regard, the Government hopes to know the decision before that date and hope that between this afternoon and this Sunday “the phone will ring” and the mystery will be cleared up.
