The PS asks the Government to distinguish between small owners and large holders in the housing bill

Andorra la VellaThe Social Democratic Party will create a Housing Commission that will serve as a link between civil society and social democratic national and communal politicians to put together and work on short, medium and long term solutions to alleviate the effects of the problem of housing and expose them to the Government, the General Council and other areas of action in the matter. The Commission aims to join efforts to promote access to decent housing and price regulation in this sector.

The president of the party, Pere Baró, and the first secretary, Marta Pujol, have made it clear that the announcement of new housing measures by Democrats for Andorra is viewed “with good eyes”, since many are social democratic proposals, but they regret that they are announced late, without consensus and ineffectively. In this regard, they have given examples such as the Housing or Work Table State Pact – which has failed because the Government has not maintained dialogue; the Ministry of Housing – which does not work with precision and specific dedication to solve the most serious problem in our society, because it is not even an exclusive ministry and is another portfolio of Minister Marsol; o the creation of the property register, the definition of affordable price and the reference price index – which were approved in parliament, but have not been started by the executive; among others.

Baró and Pujol have also stressed that one of the social democratic proposals that must be taken into account in the housing problem and that the Government and the groups that support it do not want to apply is the difference between small owners and large holders. The PS considers that this distinction must be taken into account so that the new measures do not affect owners who “have invested their savings in real estate” and protect those who do business with speculation.

Questions to the Government about the “child trap”

The president of the party and General Councilor Pere Baró has today also submitted to the Syndicatura a battery of written questions regarding the monitoring of Article 2.4.b) of Law 24/2023, of November 28, on stimulus measures and d ‘stability of the housing rental market, which is often used to commit an irregularity popularly known as the “son trap”.

In this sense, the social democratic councilor general has requested the Government to know how many inquiries the Department of Housing has received with reference to this problem, how many have been made by tenants and how many by landlords; how many files have been opened since the entry into force of the law, how many have been sanctioned and what has been the follow-up of these files.
