The Prosecutor’s Office requests 47 years in prison for a basketball coach accused of sexual abuse of six minors

The Prosecutor’s Office requests a sentence of 47 years in prison for a 28-year-old basketball coach from Felanitx (Mallorca)accused of sexual abuse of six minors whom he trained.

The Prosecutor’s Office charges him with four crimes of sexual abuse with prevalence and another two of sexual assault, one of them attempted. The abuse would have taken place for years, until the young man was arrested in July 2021 and then a 1,000 meter restraining order was issued regarding the victims.

The Prosecutor’s Office states in its brief that the accused was a coach of a basketball club, where he met the minors. The prosecutor focuses on the relationship that he forged with them as “person of authority, with influence and prestige”and how the relationship extended outside of the sporting arena.

They find three bodies that could be the surfers who disappeared in Mexico a week ago.

In detail, the coach participated in the daily life of the minors, regularly going to friends’ meetings or parties, or invited them to play video games at a home. The accusation also states that he frequently transported the players with his own vehicle and that it was common for him to stay the night at his house or for them to stay at the house where he lived.

Thus, the prosecutor describes different episodes of sexual abuse against six minors, some since they were about nine years old. Accuses the man of having masturbated minorshaving shown them pornography and having proposed or even forced them to masturbate to him.

These events allegedly occurred on occasions when the accused was left alone with one of the minors, either in a home or even in the car. In fact, the prosecutor includes in his writing alleged touching while the defendant was driving and the victim was the co-pilot.

Handling

Furthermore, the Prosecutor’s Office assures that the minors had high regard for the accused not only because of his status as a coach, but also because of his “highly aggressive character” and manipulative over them, “easily influenced due to their young age”, generating a relationship of “emotional dependence” towards him.

In this sense, according to the prosecutor’s brief, the man was very insistent with the victims and tried to convince them that what he did to them was something normal between friends. The Prosecutor’s Office maintains that two minors who rejected him He punished them by preventing them from using the basketball courts. or isolating them from the rest of the team, criticizing one of them in front of the rest of the players and asking them not to hang out with him.

He would have had a particularly close relationship with one of the minors because after the death of the victim’s father, the coach had devoted himself to the family and went to the home practically daily; In this case, the Prosecutor’s Office describes a special impunity that only ended when the mother began a new romantic relationship.“ceasing their sexual predation thereafter.”
