The names of the personalities, institutions and social entities that will recognize the Community of Madrid on May 2 for his contribution to society on the occasion of Community Day. It is a list with 15 very varied winners: from the Police to cultural representatives such as the Camela group, to sports standard bearers such as Rudy Fernández or the Rayo Vallecano club, which this year celebrates the centenary of its foundation.
The Government Council held this Wednesday at the Royal Post Office, where the solemn ceremony of awarding medals will be held next week, has agreed to deliver the Grand Cross of the Community to the Illustrious College of Attorneys of Madrid, which in 2024 celebrates the 450th anniversary of its foundation; to the National Police, which turns 200 years old; and to the Telefónica company, as already announcedbecause it has just commemorated the first centenary of its foundation.
Also receiving the Grand Cross will be the couple Elena Huertas Zurita and Octavio Torres Román, who together with their three children have taken in 14 children between two days and two years old in the last decade; and first corporal of the Army Fernando Martín Pozueco, who helped during rescue efforts after the episode of torrential rains last September that especially hit the west of the region.
The musical group Camela, the model Nieves Álvarez, the Club Rayo Vallecano, the basketball player Rudy Fernández, the journalist Constantino Mediavilla and the Grupo Crónica will also receive this decoration.
Other winners are Romanian citizens residing in the Community of Madrid, which are the largest foreign community in the region with nearly 145,000 citizens; the janitors and doormen of urban properties in the region, the health professionals in training and the Cardiology Service of the Clinical Hospital. “The regional Executive wants to give prominence to science in this event,” the Government has stated regarding these last two winners.
All these distinctions on the occasion of May 2 are delivered in accordance with the new regional Honorary Distinctions law that was approved a few days ago in the Assembly. According to the autonomous government, this change means the “restructuring” of recognitions which is awarded each year with a reduction from six decorations to three: Gold Medal, International Medal and the Grand Cross of the Order of Dos de Mayo.
