The Police challenge citizens to guess which of these two coins is fake: many have not guessed correctly.

The National Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra This week they dismantled the counterfeit coin manufacturing workshop of 2 euros most important in Europe in the last decade, and the Police has shown the quality of the fakes.

On their official account of X, the social network formerly known as Twitter, the Police have launched a challenge to citizens, with a photo of two coins, one of them true and the other false.

“Would you be able to identify which of these two is the fake coin?” ask the agents, who give the option of retweet for those who believe that the coin on the right is the counterfeit one, or ‘like’ for those who believe that the fake one is the one on the left. The authentic one is the one on the right.

The operation

The counterfeiting workshop was located in Villacañas (Toledo) and managed by a network of Chinese citizens who, since 2018, are estimated to have been on the Spanish market. 100,000 units and 400,000 in Europe.

The two machines that were found in the industrial warehouse were capable of producing between 900 and 1,000 counterfeit coins a day and, as those responsible for the investigation of both bodies detailed this Wednesday, they had had different locations in the last five years in Fuenlabrada (Madrid) and in Barcelona.

In fact, the person in charge of the Immigration Brigade of the Higher Headquarters of Madrid, Victor de las Herashas stressed that the organization first produced the counterfeit currency and subsequently dedicated itself to distribution, which was diverse: through sales to Chinese citizens or in gambling hall machines, where they exchanged the counterfeit currency for real ones.

De las Heras has assured that the minting of the coin was of the highest quality with the difference that the fake one was not magnetized as legal tender coins are.
