Andorra la VellaThe air connection between the airport of Andorra-la Seu and Palma has been “a success” according to the Government, while the link with Madrid is being consolidated little by little. Once the two destinations have been put into practice, the debate has opened on whether the Palma line should be maintained indefinitely and, at the same time, study a new connection with some other airport destination.
The aeronautical legal consultant, writer and journalist specializing in air and maritime issues Javier Ortega Figueiral defends that flights with Palma open “an absolutely interesting market, both in one sense and in the other, that is, for the people of the country who go to the islands, because it is now a destination that is flown to all year round, and especially for Balearics interested in discovering a new” and attractive destination like Andorra. Ortega adds that to complete the first steps of the airport located in l’Alt Urgell, a third line with Paris would also be desirable, both as a destination of interest for the people of the country and because it is an airport with first class international connections.
The expert believes that “people must get used to aviation as a means of entering and leaving Andorra”, and adds that “one of the good things would be a second destination where an exchange of flights to go everywhere in Europe and the world”.
Madrid, Palma and Paris aside, Ortega argues that Porto would be another strategic and interesting destination. “I know that there are very serious studies in this aspect, there has been a lot of talk about London and Paris. I think the third line should be Paris and the fourth Porto, because of the close relationship between Andorra and Portugal”, he says.
