The lack of staff is affecting the non-medical ambulance service

Andorra la VellaThe unions complain that the lack of staff is affecting the proper functioning of the non-medical ambulance service. As they explain to RTVAthe current company in charge of the service has a staff of 21 professionals, when the number should be around 34 for its normal operation.

Companies vying for the tender to take over the service say they will hire more staff to improve service conditions. However, the unions warn that the problem lies in the lack of competitiveness of the sector’s labor supply in Andorra compared to Spain. Currently, it is more attractive for these professionals to work in the neighboring country. A medical emergency technician with a truck driver’s license, the most sought-after profile, can earn eight euros more an hour in Spain, they say.

The general secretary of the USdA, Gabriel Ubach, argues that the neighboring country’s fourteen payments make a particular difference. He also reflects that this is not a problem that is seen only in the health sector, and is that more and more sectors that demand qualified workers have difficulties to compete with Spanish or especially French salaries.
