The future of Pedro Sánchez sharpens the electoral battle between Illa, Puigdemont and Aragonès

The uncertainty about the decision that the President of the Government will announce on Monday, Pedro Sanchezabout his future he added one more element of discord to the electoral battle they are waging Salvador Illa, Pere Aragones and Carles Puigdemont for the catalan elections of the May 12.

In practically all the events of the Catalan candidates held this Saturday The unknown has flown over what Sánchez will dowho left his continuity at the head of the Government in the air, after a Madrid court opened investigation proceedings against his wife, Begoña Gómez, for alleged influence peddling and corruption following a complaint from Manos Limpes.

This Saturday, the PSC candidate for the presidency of the Generalitat, Salvador Illa, has interrupted his campaign to be in the Federal Committee of the PSOE and express his support for Pedro Sánchez: “It’s where I want to be, today at this time, and it’s where I have to be.”

In his speech before the Federal Committee, Illa told Sánchez that “Nothing would make you more excited” to count on his presence in the Catalan campaign “as soon as possible.”

Salvador Illa intervenes in the Federal Committee of the PSOE.

At a rally in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat (Barcelona), the Catalan president and ERC candidate for reelection, Pere Aragonès, has claimed “stand up to fascism” through a “collective response”, and not an individual one, since “the answer should not be what makes a proper name”, in reference to Sánchez.

Aragonès has questioned the commitment made by Illa, who assured that he will not be president with the votes of the PP: “If they can, they will,” stated the ERC candidate, who recalled that this is how the socialist Jaume Collboni achieved the Mayor of Barcelona.

For his part, from Argelès-sur-Mer (France), the JxCat candidate for the Generalitat, Carles Puigdemont, has attacked Illa for “go to Madrid to receive instructions from the PSOE”, and has denounced “an intense offensive to Spanishize the” Catalan campaign, although he has made it clear that 12M “is not about the future of the PSOE.”

“We will not accept that they mislead us. “They expect a reaction and they will have it, they will find it in the form of votes,” he assured.

Feijóo sees in Sánchez an “authoritarian tic” like Franco

The most expeditious in attacking Sánchez has not been any candidate for the Generalitat, but the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóowhich has invited the President of the Government, Pedro Sánchez, to leave office, after having shown an “authoritarian tic” that in Spain had not been seen “since Franco”.

This was stated at an event in Ulldecona (Tarragona), in which he supported the head of the PP list, Alejandro Fernandezwhich in turn has asked to send Sánchez and Puigdemont on May 12 “to the trash can of history.”

For his part, the Ciudadanos candidate, Carlos Carrizosahas said that Fernández will have “his days numbered” if at some point Feijóo needs Puigdemont’s support “to reach Moncloa.”

Albiach marks distances with Illa

From Sant Feliu de Llobregat (Barcelona), the Comuns Sumar candidate, Jessica Albiachhas invited the Catalans to choose between the model of the Illa’s “projects from the past” and his, based on “more and better public transportation” and “saying no to lobbies“.

At an electoral event in Amposta (Tarragona), the head of the CUP list, Laia Estradahas asked for the vote to prevent Catalan politics from remaining “subjected” to what happens in Madrid, in a context in which Sánchez’s future marks the pace of the Catalan campaign.
