The CUP calls for a change in the economic model in the Pyrenees

Andorra la VellaThis Saturday the CUP held two campaign events in Alt Urgell, in La Seu and in Oliana, led by Bernat Lavaquiol, the leader of the list for the demarcation of Lleida.

The anti-capitalists defend a change of model that makes the Pyrenees cease to be “a sacrificial zone at the mercy of the tourist monoculture”, with all the consequences that the neighbors are already suffering, to be a living and dynamic territory, economically diverse, able to offer stable and quality work to prevent young women’s capital from migrating to the metropolitan area and with the guarantee of rights such as housing at affordable prices and quality public services, especially in education and health.

With the motto #DefenseLaTerra, the Cupaires put at the center of their campaign “the need and urgency to change course in the country’s model” and point to the current climate, economic and social crises as evidence.

The event at the headquarters was attended by Gisela Sellés, mayor of the CUP in Cava, who demanded that “Parliament should consider the needs of rural and small municipalities”.

Laure Vega, no. 2 of the candidacy for Barcelona, has remarked that “we live in an impoverished society, crushed between inflation and housing prices, tourism that depletes resources and the relocation of industry. The better future will not fall from the sky, it must be built among all working people, and that is why the CUP and the Popular Unity are here, to make it possible”.

According to Lavaquiol, “the alternatives to the current problems of women workers involve a change in the productive model to deal with the monoculture specialization that has been thrown at us in Ponent and the Pyrenees. It is urgent to bet on having a strong primary sector without leaving any farmer behind, guaranteeing fair prices for their products through a public distributor, ensuring that there is a generational relief through a land bank and bet on a public insurer that do not do business with the misery of the peasantry and the consequences of climate change. It is necessary to propose solutions for the real needs of the population, protect rights such as housing so that it can be accessible to everyone, generate stable and quality work and make public services strong so that people are not afraid of getting sick and education is truly inclusive. “

In Oliana, Lavaquiol was accompanied by Arnau Quingles, councilor of the CUP in the municipality, and Núria Sauquillo, no. 9 of the candidacy, which have explained the importance of Lavaquiol entering as a deputy to act as a transmission belt for social movements, local struggles and the problems of the Pyrenees.
