The Coordinator for a Decent Housing urges Marsol to respond quickly to cases of the ‘child trap’

Andorra la VellaThe Coordinadora per un Habitatge Digne continues to undertake actions and communications in order to advance the action of the executive regarding the ‘child trap’, the bad practices carried out by some owners claiming that a family member needs the flat, even if this is not the case, to be able to evict the person who lives as a renter in the property. According to the organization, on April 24 a meeting took place between the Minister of Housing, Conxita Marsol, and representatives of the group of those affected by this problem.

Through its Instagram account, Habitatge Digne has explained what the objectives of the meeting were: to ensure that the parliamentary procedures begin as soon as possible, that the minister undertakes to defend their demands and ensure that the ministry headed by Marsol has the resources to ensure that the new protocol to avoid the ‘child trap’ can be guaranteed.

The entity’s demands regarding this issue are that a procedure be established without margin for legal interpretation, that each case be investigated before the rental contract ends, that the victims of these practices be compensated , that tenants have the right to recover the lease if it is detected that the ‘child trap’ is being applied, that single-parent families and those at risk of social exclusion are protected and that the corresponding sanctions are toughened.

However, they have assured that Minister Marsol refused to put her signed commitment in writing, adding that part of the commitments do not depend on her. However, he has committed to bring his proposal to the organization, opening up the possibility of holding a new meeting. From Habitatge Digne they ask the minister to have the proposal ready as soon as possible.
