Swerve Strickland Wins AEW World Championship At AEW Dynasty

One amazing night of wrestling won’t solve all of AEW‘s issues, but the company certainly took a major step in the right direction with AEW Dynasty. On top of a “match of the year” candidate between Will Ospreay and Bryan Danielson, AEW Dynasty crowned multiple new champions, none more important than Swerve Strickland as the new AEW World Champion.

AEW Is Indeed Swerve’s House

On a night that saw multiple title changes, none were as impactful as Swerve Strickland dethroning Samoa Joe from the top of the mountain and becoming the new AEW World Champion. Swerve made his entrance in Black Panther-inspired gear, setting the stage for an epic, back and forth main event that saw AEW crown its first Black World Champion.

Swerve Strickland has taken AEW by storm, so now is the perfect time to learn a little more about the wrestling star!

Swerve wasn’t the only person to win gold at the big event, as The Young Bucks became the first 3-time AEW Tag Team Champions when they defeated FTR in a hellacious ladder match.

When it seemed like Dax Harwood had the match won, Jack Perry made his AEW return and cost FTR the match, allowing Nick Jackson to grab the titles, giving The Young Bucks their record-breaking 3rd reign.

Willow Nightingale brought home some gold as well, when she overpowered Julia Hart and successfully won the TBS Championship in convincing fashion. This win set up the stage for AEW Double Or Nothing, where she will defend her newly won title against AEW’s C.E.O., Mercedes Mone.

The Best & Worst Title Reigns Of Each Championship In AEW

AEW has had some amazing champions bring prestige to their titles, but not all championship reigns have been good.

On the pre-show, Bullet Club Gold defeated The Acclaimed and Daddy Ass to win the AEW Trios titles, unifying them with their own ROH Trios Championships.

In a more controversial move, Chris Jericho defeated HOOK for the FTW Championship. Fans let it be known that they were unhappy with the decision to allow an aging veteran like Chris Jericho to get the PPV victory over the up-and-coming young star. It was easily the worst match and moment on a night filled with great wrestling and multiple title changes.
