Stefon Diggs’ brother gets probation after vicious elevator attack

Darez Diggs, the brother of Texans wideout Stefon Diggs and Cowboys cornerback Trevon Diggs, pleaded no contest to a felony charge, received two years of probation last month and will be required to perform 20 hours of community service in connection to an elevator attack that occurred in May 2023, according to TMZ Sports.

The outlet added that Diggs “cut a deal with prosecutors,” though there’s a civil case — Cristopher Griffith, the victim, reportedly sued Diggs earlier this year — that allegedly remains active.

The incident occurred May 29 inside a Los Angeles apartment building, when Griffith stepped outside an elevator on the 16th floor, noticed Diggs standing outside and then attempted to return into the elevator, according to surveillance footage obtained by TMZ Sports last year.

Diggs used his hand to prevent the elevator from shutting while two other men entered the area and began attacking Griffith — eventually throwing him outside the elevator.

While inside the elevator, footage captured the two men that accompanied Diggs ripping an orange bag — which allegedly contained “diamonds and other jewelry,” police told TMZ Sports last year — away from Griffith before the attack continued in the area outside of the elevator.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear.

Griffith reportedly filed a lawsuit in January against Diggs, as well as another one against the owner of the building, and cited “pain, suffering and emotional distress” — as well as addressing the $100,000 worth of jewelry and “other property” stolen that night, TMZ Sports reported at the time.

Diggs, who was listed as a defensive back on the Los Angeles Wildcats’ XFL roster in 2020, started his college football career at Iowa Western Community College before transferring to the University of Alabama at Birmingham, according to his UAB roster page.

His brother, Stefon, was dealt to the Texans earlier this month for a 2025 second-round pick, ending a tenure with the Bills that stretched four seasons — with 1,000-yard campaigns in each — but also featured plenty of instances where the strength of Stefon’s relationship with quarterback Josh Allen was questioned.

“Any time you make a move like this, as I said, very difficult, you’re trying to win,” Bills general manager Brandon Beane told reporters after the deal. “And sometimes people may not see that. This is by no means the Bills giving up or trying to take a step back or anything like that. Everything we do, we’re trying to win.”

Darez Diggs played for the Los Angles Wildcats in the XFL in 2020.

Stefon will instead join Nico Collins, Tank Dell and tight end Dalton Schultz in Houston and form a talented group of receiving options for second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud.

Trevon, a two-time Pro Bowler and All-Pro cornerback in 2021, tore his ACL in September and missed the rest of the season.
