Skye Blue Was Stuck In Barbed Wire For Several Minutes After AEW Went Off Air

The brutal ending to Rampage was even more brutal for Skye Blue.

Highlights

  • Skye Blue’s attempts to become TBS Champion ended when Willow Nightingale put her through a table covered in barbed wire on Rampage.
  • Blue’s misery wasn’t over when the match ended as she struggled to get free from the barbed wire.
  • Fans in attendance have revealed it took AEW officials several minutes to get her free so she could return to the back to get patched up.

Pro wrestling feels more split than it ever has done before. Between fans of WWE or AEW taking shots at the other and Tony Khan making ill-thought-out comments about WWE as a whole, the addition of social media makes it feel like the two sides are warring even more than they were when WCW was WWE’s biggest rival. However, the one thing guaranteed to unite wrestling fans is someone calling what we love fake. Pro wrestling might be staged and pre-determined, but it is definitely not fake. Just ask Skye Blue after her brutal main event match on Rampage.

Stuck In Barbed Wire

Skye Blue AEW Dynamite

Blue clashed with Willow Nightingale in the main event of Wednesday’s Rampage for the TBS Title. An Anything Goes Falls Count Anywhere match which is why the bout and the night came to an end when Nightingale powerbombed Blue through a table covered in barbed wire, pinning her for the win immediately afterwards. End of the night for the TBS Champ, but Blue would have to stay out in front of fans after the cameras stopped rolling.

How Skye Blue Became A Fan Favorite In AEW’s Struggling Women’s Division

Women’s wrestling might be falling to some lackluster booking at the moment, but Skye Blue is breaking out as AEW’s newest star.

That’s because according to fans in attendance (via Drainmaker), Blue couldn’t get herself free from the barbed into which she had been powerbombed. That’s right those of you who think wrestling is fake – the barbed wire is real too. Blue needed the help of AEW officials to get free from the mess of barbed wire in which she was tangled, and according to in-house fans it took everyone involved a few minutes to get her out while fans watched on.

Barbed Wire In Pro Wrestling

Blue will undoubtedly be feeling the effects of that match this morning, particularly the scratches and cuts she’ll have been left with thanks to the barbed wire. It’s a blessing the match came to an end when the barbed wire was brought into the mix. Had Nightingale needed to stop her assault for a few minutes while people ran down to free her opponent from barbed wire, it might have taken fans out of the moment somewhat. Not to mention Blue having to continue on after being trapped in a bed of barbed wire.

Some might see this and question the tools being used by AEW wrestlers as this isn’t the first time in recent memory a real prop has caused issues. Darby Allin was left a bloody mess after going through a real pane of glass at Revolution, and the issues between CM Punk and Jack Perry began with the latter wanting to use real glass for a stunt and Punk putting a stop to it. I’m no barbed wire expert, but I’d assume the fake stuff is easier to spot, whereas there’s really no benefit to using real glass instead of the fake stuff used in WWE.
