WWE is trying to get in on the very public feud between rappers Kendrick Lamar and Drake, with Shawn Michaels specifically inviting both to NXT to settle their beef. Considering Michaels was indirectly mentioned in Lamar’s new diss track, it would make sense the Heartbreak Kid and creative mind behind NXT would see an opportunity and try to pounce.
Ever since Lamar targeted Drake in his verse on Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That” back in March, the rivalry between the two music icons has escalated, with both exchanging numerous intense verses in an unprecedented beef. The peak of their verbal sparring occurred over the weekend of May 3, when Lamar called out Drake and his crew as “certified pedophiles” and suggested Drake’s Toronto hometown as being one that harbors multiple sex offenders.

There’s a line in the song that calls out Michaels’ old finishing maneuver “Sweet Chin Music” and that’s where WWE and Michaels come in. Lamar rapped, “Put the whole label on me, I’ma get ’em dropped, Sweet Chin Music and I won’t pass the aux.” Seeing a reference to himself, Michaels took to social media and wrote, “A little Sweet Chin Music goes a long way.” He then invited both of them with an @ to NXT and offered his services as an in-ring mediator. It’s not likely either will accept, but the idea of WWE capitalizing on this very public beef with a crossover appearance would be huge for WWE, specifically NXT.
WWE Never Misses An Opportunity
Even non-rap fans are talking about this Drake and Lamar back-and-forth, which has taken mainstream media by storm and been the cover story of the rap world of late. WWE is well aware of the popularity of stars outside their industry, and how bringing them in would be a huge appeal for non-wrestling fans. Drake is a WWE fan, having worn a WWE Championship belt gifted to him in public.
Just imagine if they did accept Michaels’s invitation. This would draw incredibly massive numbers for NXT, which is working hard to establish itself as a legitimate third brand that is somewhere near the level of both Raw and SmackDown.
