SHANE LOWRY joked white trousers were a step too far as he and Rory McIlroy donned more eye-catching attire than usual.
The close pals did finish top of the Thursday leaderboard at the Zurich Open in a fetching pair of salmon polo shirts.
Tweeting an image of them on the course together, he wrote: “Yes to the pink shirt but no to the white trousers Rory McIlroy.”
While their choice of outfit may have raised a few eyebrows, it definitely wasn’t the most hair-raising moment from their day’s play in the team tournament.
That’s because at one point while Shane lined up a chip onto the green, an alligator could be seen hovering in the water mere yards away.
After realising his nearby onlooker, mics picked up Shane telling playing partner McIlroy: “Little fella about that size…I nearly s**t myself!”
The toothy carnivore wasn’t content with a watching brief from the water though.
Play was actually suspended later on as it went for a stroll across the tee box on 17.
Bronson Burgoon was preparing to tee off at the time along with Camillo Villegas, Sam Stevens and Paul Barjon.
The commentator explained: “Time has been called at 17. So that particular critter has four legs.

“For a long time a legendary alligator which was named Tripod was here, he has three legs as you might imagine.
“There’s another three-legged alligator that’s been spotted around the course recently, but he’s missing his front left leg, Tripod was missing his front right leg.”
Fans found the interruption hilarious as players were left to practice their swings as they waited around.
One said: “An alligator crossing the tee box at Zurich Classic😂😂”
Another added: “Put him on the clock already.”
A third wrote: “Don’t mind me just passing through.”
And another commented: “Still faster than half the Tour.”
Alligators are commonplace at some courses in the US and last month one was spotted swimming in water at the Cognizant Classic in Florida.
A few weeks prior some unfortunate golfers were even attacked by an angry alligator in Florida.
