WWE will be heading to Saudi Arabia for its next premium live event, but the country wants to enhance its partnership with the company to potentially host WWE WrestleMania in the future.
Could WWE WrestleMania Be Heading To Saudi Arabia?
Chairman of Saudi Arabia’s General Entertainment Authority, Turki Alalshikh has revealed to ESPN that the existing deal between WWE and Saudi Arabia is set to be enhanced soon. Details of that are expected to be revealed later this month, more than likely to coincide with the upcoming WWE King & Queen Of The Ring event.
While it’s currently unknown what will be part of that announcement, Alalshikh did reveal that Saudi Arabia wants to bring the WWE Royal Rumble or WWE WrestleMania to the country as part of it. That would be a historic situation considering neither event has ever been held outside of the United States or Canada to this point.
WWE Officially Opens WWE Experience in Saudi Arabia
The WWE Experience in Saudi Arabia opened today and the exhibits look extremely cool, especially for avid WWE fans.
If the Grandest Stage Of Them All was to go international, it would be in 2026 at the earliest, as it has already been confirmed that WWE WrestleMania 41 will be happening in Las Vegas. The location for next year’s WWE Royal Rumble currently remains unknown.
His comments came as part of an announcement regarding an agreement between Riyadh Season and the UFC, strengthening the countries bond with the owner of both companies – TKO Group Holdings. However, Saudi Arabia isn’t the only international country hoping to host WWE WrestleMania, as there’s been a lot of talk about London, England being a future destination for the event lately.
WWE Has A Longstanding Relationship With Saudi Arabia
While it was highly controversial at the time, WWE has been working with the Saudi General Sports Authority since 2018 when a 10-year deal was agreed between them. Since then WWE has held regular premium live events in the country, often putting together major cards that have features some of the biggest names in company history.
Shawn Michaels was brought out of retirement to wrestle in Saudi Arabia, while the biggest Rumble in history also happened there. WWE has also pushed to help the country make progress regarding female representation in the country, with the women’s division now being able to participate on the shows which wasn’t the case at the start.
While WWE is returning to the Middle East this month, whether the country gets to host any of WWE’s major PLEs remains to be seen.
